Crystal, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was inspired to start bartending from my friend Carlotta. She started bartending part-time she was making great money just working part-time. I decided to go to school for bartending at ABC bartending school. After I completed bartending school, I reached out to Carlotta, who was working at Club Nia night club in Dallas. She talked to the manager Ken and was able to get an interview. I started working at Club Nia bartending on the weekends. I always wanted to have my own business so I started booking events on the side.
My wing business is inspired by my beloved father Columbus Smith Jr. I had to help on weekends selling turkey legs, snow cones, and other things with him. His dream was to have his own business but he never was able to start that business. Everyone was raving about my drinks and wings so I decided to officially start my businesses: Honiedews mobile bartending and Honeidews Wings N Things.
Has it been a smooth road?
If you don’t have any roadblocks, then it’s not life! This journey has been a roll a coaster ride but I’m learning as I go. With all the roadblocks that I had to overcome, I’m able to hold my head up and keep pushing. Giving up isn’t an option for me. I have battled with deep depression for years. It has been hard to keep going when it’s just you to pick yourself up when you don’t have the energy to move forward. I have spent a lot of time along to find myself and retrain my mind, body and soul. It hasn’t been an easy road; I have learned a lot from my obstacles. I will not give up; I want everyone to know about my businesses.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Honiedews Bartending – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I currently have two businesses. My first business, Honiedew’s Mobile Bartending. This is a mobile bartending service for all any event, small or large. I specialized in my signature drinks. The one drink my company is known for is Henny Lemonade (Golden Milk). This drink is smooth light but does a great job to get you feeling good. Not too strong but just right. This company is my baby I had come a long way from when I 1st started 14 years ago. To see this company grow and expand is a dream come true. What sets me apart from others is I create drinks for my clients just for their events. I make sure everyone gets a signature drink list make so the guest can have something different. This will allow my company to stand out and allow people to remember me when they need a bartender.
My 2nd business is Honeidews Wings N Things. This is my famous wing company. This is my wings catering company. This company is known for its homemade sauces and homemade ranch. One of the popular flavors is Spicy Ranch and Honey BBQ. My dad always wanted his own catering company this business is inspired by him Columbus Smith Jr. I know he’s with me when I’m cooking and mixing up my sauces in the kitchen. What makes this company stands out I make sure I apply love and pressure to every order I make. If I don’t feel like the order is good, I will not sell it. I love food so I make the food like I’m going to eat it with great quality.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
You do have a lot of people within my city that will support you. I wish people would support local businesses and people who are hustling to become big more.
