Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Marr.
Michael, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I grew up in small town Texas in the country in a poor community with not much opportunity. I always managed to find work to do. I was always in search of meeting people’s needs and solving their problems so I tinted windows, worked on cars, worked in a dairy queen, picked up trash, hauled hay, etc. I joined the Army at 18 with the goal of doing 4 years and getting out to go play football somewhere. 21 years later, I found myself retiring from the Army and looking for the next thing that life had in store. I went to work for a corporation and quickly moved up the ladder and became a district manager responsible for 200 employees and 30 million in revenue but I was not happy.
I didn’t like what is was doing but the things I learned about business were invaluable. After 9 years, I decided to do something different and landed at a nonprofit organization that helped veterans start businesses. I helped launch 22 veteran owned business and then the CEO said to me “You don’t just have to work here you can also start something on your own.” I did that and started out with a cleaning business in construction which morphed into what we are today. We do erosion control, SWPPP planning and reporting, pressure washing, parking lot sweeping, storm sewer camera work and clean out, final cleaning, a little demolition work and really just solve problems for our clients. Our slogan “If You Need It Done, We Make It Happen.”
One of the main tenets of how we operate is that it is never about the money- if you do things right, take pride in serving others and doing what you say then the money follows. It is about making sure you provide solutions that work and following through on commitments.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There are always obstacles and being able to problem solve and navigate the field of play is critical to success.
We run into situations all the time in construction where a set of construction plans just doesn’t work in practice although theoretically it should so we have to make adjustments.
Another thing that is challenging is last minute requests that throw a wrench into your schedules. We have always prided ourselves on being able to respond rapidly and solve issues so the last-minute requests are likely a product of me saying we are rapidly deployable to make stuff happen.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t think luck has anything to do with it. My faith in God and my willingness to work has played the biggest role in what we have accomplished.
I have been blessed to find some high-quality individuals to work with us- we look for character and pride in workmanship and not necessarily qualifications on a resume.
We believe in training and development- Training being teaching people how to do and development being teaching them how to think. If they can problem solve on their own and handle situations then we are better as a company and poised for more growth.
