Today we’d like to introduce you to Roderick Turner.
The idea of TOPIT the APP came to our owner, Roderick Turner, after relocation from Alabama to Dallas as a way to remain connected to his college teammates, friends and family. The first iteration of the app was developed in 2017; however production of the app began in late 2019. The concept of TOPIT the APP is to create a community surrounding virtual challenges such as sports, fitness, music or food.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Our biggest challenges have been raising capital for the full app build. As TOPIT, the APP creates a new way to engage in challenges; the average cost begins at $70K. We’ve had some great access to Think Tanks and accelerator programs, which provided educational tools and mentorship, but the capital funding has been and still an obstacle.
The second obstacle is carving out our niche in the app market, competing against other popular platforms such as TikTok and Instagram. What makes TOPIT the APP unique is that it exclusively build a community for our users centered around challenges.

TOPIT the APP allows users to create a fun yet target challenges against friends, rivals or celebrities. We have more than 75,000 users who create dance challenges, such as the latest #WAP or fitness challenges such as #SpeedRun.
Our proudest moment occurred mid-summer when we went viral following a shout out from a local college student! We gained almost 50,000 users in two days! Many have remained on and we’re excited to announce all of the new features based upon their appreciated input.
What were you like growing up?
Not necessarily young childhood but my late teen years of playing college football with men who became my brothers for life. This is what birthed the inspiration for TOPIT the APP!
