Meet Carla Bible of Lady C Treats & Events in Dallas Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carla Bible.

Carla, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I guess you can say I have always had a love for crafting. I started making holiday decorations as a hobby a few years ago. The interest started building up; from decorating to making treats for family gatherings and job functions, I just couldn’t stop. Few of my family members and colleagues would tell me I should do it as a business. I remember my husband saying, “Whatever you decide to do, I’m with you 100%”. Years went by and so I just decided to go for it. I made a hobby into a business, Lady C Treats & Events officially came into place 2018.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road was not smooth at all at first; Being a mom, wife with a full-time job and trying to run a business was rough. You have to find balance. Making time for my family and myself was always my top priority. But it’s easier said than done. Late nights are working into the morning on orders, then off to a 9 to 5 was being a routine. Even though people saw me as a happy, full of life woman, I was exhausted. I started having health conditions/issues such as hypertension and other concerns that required me to be on medications. I felt overwhelmed even wanted to give up on having a business because other areas of my life were lacking attention. But with support from my family and making a few healthy lifestyle adjustments, I found how to balance my life and I was focused again.

Support is key; My support comes from my husband and son that help me with setups when their schedules allow and lending a hand to package treats etc. my mom strive to always want to come over to keep my workspace organized, my sister that helps me with my website/marketing. It really means a lot and is a positive thing when you have a tribe of people that want to see you succeed. Over the years, things got better and I was growing in my skills. When the Covid-19 pandemic hit this year, it changed my career dramatically. I was furloughed among others, then shortly after a couple of months, I lost my job of 20 years completely from a non-profit organization. My family quickly assured me and I remember them saying, “Everything happens for a reason, you got this Carla, this is your time to work on YOUR business now.” They knew I was always an independent and hard-working woman.

And they were right; I can be my own boss like I always dreamed. I was scared at first because there were people that had lost their jobs like, I did out there. Some are single-income families and party plans would be the last thing they would want to spend money on when they had bills to pay. Besides, Texas had social distancing restrictions put in place as well. I did a few birthday treats as donations for clients that booked already but couldn’t afford to pay off their balance. I didn’t want to see children go without having something on their special day even if they couldn’t have a party but celebrate at home. That’s just the way I am. However people started getting creative with “Quarantine” style ways to celebrate their occasions. As things are continuing to open and some restrictions are being lifted blessings are flowing in and being put in place from all directions. I’m getting referrals by emails, through social media etc. about treats and balloon decorating. I’m currently booking for 2021 already.

Lady C Treats & Events – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I specialize in custom, unique treats, party and balloon decorations for all occasions and events. I’ve been known for my 3D rice crispy treats. I’m very proud of my skill growth. I’m always learning and trying new things. I love being able to network, connect with and learn from some of the best treat makers out there it’s so amazing. Also, I give back to the community whenever I can. I have participated in past community events such as back to school supply drives, health events for kids, career day. I have a strong passion in what I do. I want to make my client’s imaginations become a reality and that makes me different.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I remember a moment when a client allowed me to have full creative freedom on her treats and she was so overwhelmed with tears of joy, gave me so many hugs. She said it was over and beyond what she expected. I was so happy I even cried. But this interview I must say is a proud moment for me. I’m so humbled to be found as a “hidden gem” it’s so wonderful. I feel blessed. This means a lot because someone saw my potential, my worth and I want someone to see their potential and their worth. You may be  “hidden” now but just keep pushing, keep working, your work will speak for itself. You will reach the surface and someone will find you too.
