Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha and Rosanna Sanchez.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Absolutely! My story begins, as most of my stories do, with my Mom who had recently started spray tanning by herself. My journey with spray tanning started with helping her prep her clients and taking before and after photos of her work. My Mom would also practice on me, trying out new techniques, like layering me in multiple colors, which is not a good idea, but it is something we laugh about now. My start in this industry reminds me to laugh and while laughing, be sure to also learn a little. The more I observed and sat in on her tans, she began encouraging me to learn how to do it all myself. We were both very fortunate in that our friends had passed over some of their tanning equipment they did not really use, so we both got to start spraying right away.
On this journey, we have taken professional tan-training courses, talked with multiple celebrity tan artists, and continue to strategize ways to expand our knowledge of the business. My mother and I also have the greatest relationship and are always (mostly) on the same page, which makes being in business together 10x are easier! When we started our mother-daughter business duo, we would spray in the living room. We eventually upgraded to my parent’s room for more space and then finally decorated my room to be the official tanning room. Our goal was to be able to leave the equipment up instead of setting up and taking it down every time. We then did our first mobile tan, which was a train wreck, but we still felt like we had overcome an obstacle at the end of the tan, another laughing/learning moment. We really enjoy tanning because we get to meet so many wonderful gals and we learn and grow every day. It is just so much fun and never feels like a job, it just feels like a constant dream.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
We are a team and work best and have the most fun when we get to work together! When we go into a tan, we have a flow and we know who is going to do what. We have it down so well that tanning clients separately took some adjusting. Sometimes our schedules just don’t permit us to be together with a client. We struggled with that in the beginning, since we relied on each other so much. Now, when one of us sees a client alone, we help each other set up and prepare before hand. It took some practice, but it’s much easier than it was the first time we were each solo.

We are a mother-daughter spray tanning business called “Rose Gold Tan”. We specialize in customizing every color to match our client’s unique skin tone. Our tans aren’t just your typical “dark” or “light”. We really take the time to create a multi-dimensional color that looks like a warmer version of your real complexion. We adjust our spray techniques and color choices to accommodate the changing of the seasons, which allows our clients to tan with us year-round.
I think the thing that makes our business stand out the most is our attention to detail. We don’t just slap a color on someone and call it a day. We chat with our clients beforehand regarding the occasion they’re tanning for, the colors they’ll be wearing, and the activities they’ll be doing to make sure we select the proper color and product for what they have planned. Every spray tan is meticulously hand-blended so there is no distinction between the solution and the skin. Our tans are also preserved with a professional drying powder to ensure flawless processing. We follow-up with each and every one of our gals the next day to make sure they are satisfied with the overall look.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up I was a tomboy and really wasn’t into the beauty all that much. I would occasionally bring out my princess dresses but my everyday look was shorts and a sweatshirt. That all changed once I reached high school and was more open to looking and feeling my best. Personality-wise, I have always been very social and outgoing, which my mom is the total opposite. She grew up being shy but social once you got to know her. I feel that tanning has opened her up more and we compliment each other nicely, especially when going to a mobile tan. My mom is also very big into looking and feeling your best, which has influenced me a great deal. I think something we both have in common is not passing judgment, which is a key factor to this industry. Exuding confidence and building other women’s confidence in the tanning tent makes us the happiest.
