Cancer Sucks! But it’s not the main thing that brought me to the world of permanent makeup and Microblading in Dallas. Hello, I’m Bianca Elise. I’m a portrait painter with over 20 years of experience in fine arts. I’ve always been fascinated with faces. In college, I’d spend countless days studying the portraits of fine arts masters, and at home, I’d spend countless evenings slinging a Brush to the canvas—eyes, Brows, Lips, etc. Faces have always been my specialty!
In the early 2000s, many of my artwork’s proceeds contributed to many women’s and children’s charities in the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex. Spiritually it was rewarding, but financially being a freelancer was exhausting.
So in the Fall of 2014, I enrolled in nursing school and LOVED IT! I had a 3.9 GPA and was well on my way to Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) and becoming a rockstar nurse. (God. Bless. Them.) But life gives you unexpected opportunities. You either accept them or let them pass you by. I accepted.
In 2016, I enrolled in a six-month in-person and online Permanent makeup and Microblading course in Dallas with Phi Brows, the industry’s leading educators, from a colleague’s suggestion. This, the best creative decision of my life has allowed me to create some of the Best Microblading in Dallas.
Fast forward to 2017; I partnered to form a semi-permanent makeup (PMU) salon (which still flourishes in the DFW metroplex.) Due to my art career and nursing training, it was easy to transfer confidence and find women who’d let me transform their faces for the better. Together my partner and I cracked the brow code and helped over 800 women reach their brow goals and receive the Best Microblading in Dallas. For a time, it was amazing!
However, a constant challenge I struggle with is discerning my Worth from Productivity. The busier I became, the emptier I felt. And I truly missed the active charity component that came with being an artist. Regrettably, the way we structured the company left no room to contribute to charities either monetarily, emotionally, or physically. I felt exhausted and spiritually void. However, my most significant strength is persistence. I believe that if something you want doesn’t exist, it’s YOUR JOB to create it!
So 2019, I dissolved the partnership and created Union Beauty Lab and haven’t looked back! Union Beauty Lab Expert Microblading Brow Artists Dallas aligns with my desire to help and serve. We create the Best Microblading in Dallas. I’m thankful that my team and I have created a Beautifully safe PMU studio in the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex for ALL. Women like you, the everyday Woman, women who’ve conquered cancer, women with thyroid issues, alopecia, and other types of hair loss, can all feel safe and welcomed here!
Has it been a smooth road?
The first few years of my PMU career were intense. Along the way, there have been four primary obstacles or lessons rather.
1. Learning balance. In the beginning, starting a new company with very little capital meant working another job to grow a business. Implementing systems and processes is KEY.
2. Learning the difference between “Showing” vs. “Telling.” Telling is a loudspeaker that pushes folks away, “Showing” is like a whisper. It draws you closer. I revisit this rule often.
3. “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” The hardest part of growing our team is finding members who understand the value of slow, steady growth vs. overnight short term success. Long term growth isn’t done alone! Thankfully, I’ve been blessed enough to find women who have serving hearts and a desire to craft the Best Microblading in Dallas along this journey. And the pandemic has revealed that our team’s hearts are just as large as Union’s goals.
4. Our newest challenge is getting the word out about our “Cancer ‘Free’ Brows” program. Each month we gift two women who are post-chemo, have successfully reached their five-year remission goal, and are approved by their primary caregiver, Free Brows. Cancer runs in my family, as well as the families of my teammates. We’re blessed enough to encounter several women who’ve kicked cancer’s butt at our salon. But, beating cancer is a catch 22. Your life’s spared, thankfully, but often your brows are not.
