Hi Daisy, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I think my story started in high school; my junior year, I traded my iPod touch, plus cash for an iPhone 4. Later saving enough money from my job at Mcdonald’s to buy an iPhone 5! One day I had a cellphone repair tool kit from my sister who tried to fix her own iPhone and I just took my perfectly good iPhone 5 apart, Just out of curiosity. Fast forward a couple of years, I started telling my crew members at McDonald’s I could fix their phone when I had no idea what I was doing, surprisingly successfully repairing a few of them! My real story begins when I was 21, I quit my job, taking a $5 pay cut to work at a new local repair store to follow my passion. I was so eager to be more hands-on and learn as much as I possibly could. I learned many things throughout nine months, from fixing iPads, iPhones, and many other cell phone models. More of my knowledge came from taking on another job at a bigger repair store 1 hour away from my home. I learned unlocking, soldering, computer repair, and the list goes on!
Some days I would not make it home till 11 PM, setting appointments with clients in my area to repair their phone screens after I got off my regular job. I started buying and flipping phones and meeting clients at my local police department. Two years later at 23, I quit my job at the repair store I was working at, no more long drives and no more headaches from trying to run a business that was not mine. Like any 23 year old, I was lost, I was not financially secure enough to afford to quit my job. Three months went by and I still had no idea what I was going to continue doing. At one point, calling my old boss back for a job, taking on some repairs in the area by appointment to keep me above water. I knew I didn’t want to go back to a 9-5 job so I hustled! I created First Aid Wireless on Facebook, posting ads on the market place, and buy and sell groups. Offering lower prices with the same or better quality repairs as stores in the area. Giving the client the benefit of staying home and having their phone repaired right outside their home! The business took OFF! Scheduling up to 5 repairs a day and selling phones in between. First Aid wireless became very popular in my small town and surrounding cities, allowing me to save up enough to move out of my mother’s house and open my very first physical location in only a year! I officially opened First Aid Wireless in Red Oak, November 18th, 2019!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. I think my hardest hurdle has been being a woman in a mostly male-dominated business. I have had to be strong and firm to be heard and get my point across. Other struggles I’ve faced throughout the years was financial stability. My family was not wealthy, at times, not having a car to even go get groceries. For a business, you need to spend money to make money and it was something I had to discipline myself on. I had to save almost every penny to get to where I am today.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in cellphones, tablets, computer repair and recently adding game consoles to our list! We can do anything from hardware to software! We also solder in store for charging port and other repairs! I can say I’m very well known as the girl who fixes and sells phones! I try to carry a very personal friendship with most of my loyal clients! We are one of the highest-rated cellphone repair stores in our county. We do everything we can to return your device in a new-like condition! My proudest moments are hearing feedback from clients and know that we are doing our part to keep everyone happy!
Any big plans?
As any business owner, my plans for the future is to expand, I want other cities to get to know my name, my work, and my passion. As far as anything in the near future? No big changes, we are still new in Red Oak and would like to focus my attention on the work we do here!
