Exploring Life & Business with Cheyenne Mitchum of Shop Quarantine

Hi Cheyenne, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
At the end of February, I was diagnosed with COVID-19. I was 1 of 27 at the time in Dallas. It was all very new back then and no one really knew how it would play out. I was very sick from the end of February until about the beginning of April. I was working in the event industry at the time and had to miss a lot of work. Unfortunately, during these months is when things got really bad for America, and at the end of March, while I was still battling with covid, I was furloughed from my company. I wasn’t that surprised because at this point is when the lockdown began. I figured life would back to normal shortly… Like everyone else did. By May, I was feeling better and back to myself. Still off of work, just waiting around and finding new hobbies. In July, a new battle began for me. I started having a bunch of crazy unexplained things happening to me. I have “long hauler syndrome, or “long covid,” “post covid syndrome,” With a bunch of horrible illnesses wrecking my body all at once. I have everything from heart inflammation, severe pain in my hands and feet to the point I can’t use them, heart palpitations, etc. I have been in and out of hospitals, doctors, etc., pretty much non-stop since July.

During my battle with long covid, my division at work was shut down. For good. 2020 was hard enough, and nothing was getting better. I wanted to do something.. Something to bring myself happiness as well as others. This leads me to where I am. I initially started Shop Quarantine was a little goofy thing to do. Sell a few cool things in the hope of keeping myself business and making people a little happy. I’ve only had the Shop open for about four months and it’s really taken off. The messages I get from people saying, “Hey, this purse I got brought me joy,” sounds silly to some but, it’s what I need right now. Our message is pretty simple from bored people… for bored people with good taste. Shop Quarantine is something a little bright is a dark time.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
2020 has been anything but smooth. But, the point is to find something that brings you joy. Shop Quarantine brings me joy and is getting me through a rough time.

We’ve been impressed with Shop Quarantine, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Shop Quarantine was born in 2020, with one message. For bored people, from bored people. Sounds straight forward enough? It’s all about to bring a smile to a face during a time when it’s so easy to get down. We sell everything from accessories, jewelry, face masks (of course), clothes and everything in between!

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Life is all about risk-taking. Right now, there’s a lot of risk for everyone. I’ve re-invented myself too many times to count! At the age of 18, I started a marketing company. It was my baby for many, many years. One day I decided it didn’t bring me to the joy that it used to, and I let it go. I went back to my job in the event industry, where my heart was. This year that industry basically vanished. While facing my health struggles, I decided to go back to school and continue working towards a bachelor’s degree and Shop Quarantine was born all in these past few months. When you’re looking at adversity, you have to try and find some light.
