Today we’d like to introduce you to Latasha Williams, Destany and Desirae Davis.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
This mother-2 daughter combo story began in the womb in 1993. Mom, Latasha was only 14 years old. Twenty-six years later, this same combo is making their dream a reality. At 15 years old, delivering twins, Latasha thought her life was over. She soon realized that her life had just begun. From the very beginning, Destany and Desirae were always at the top of their class. From graduating high school with an Associates Degree and finishing college early, there was nothing too hard for them. We have always worked together so well! We first realized this when we began attending Community Missionary Baptist Church in Desoto, Texas in 2010. Between working and volunteering at the church, we were unstoppable.
The dream of working for ourselves was always just that, a dream. The topic came up again at the end of summer 2019 and we have been pushing ever since. From thinking of a name to borrowing money to purchase equipment and supplies, researching, a lot of hours of planning and much prayer, Sweet Start Childcare was born!
Sweet Start Childcare opened in February of 2020. We started with only five children and we have well over 50 now. Soon after opening, COVID came. Talk about PURPOSE! We did not allow this to stop us. Believe it or not, COVID opened up doors we never saw coming. We grew and grew fast!
Sweet Start Childcare stemmed from something we were all passionate about-KIDS! Sweet Start enables us to fulfill our PURPOSE while beating the odds. We have always dreamed big and we always will. Little did we know, God had BIG plans for us while we were merely dreaming BIG. We are excited to see what the future holds.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Starting Sweet Start Childcare has not been a smooth road by far. From the very beginning, we received so many no’s, but we were not taking no for an answer. To top it all off, COVID came full fledged immediately after our opening day. At that point, we weren’t sure whether we’d have to close down or be able to remain open. The COVID pandemic has been bittersweet for us because so many families were seeking childcare after their childcare centers were forced to close down, while we continued to serve families by the grace of God.
Sweet Start Childcare – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Sweet Start Childcare is a childcare center located in Desoto, Texas. We are open Monday-Friday from 6 am – 6:30 pm. We provide care for children ages 0-12 years old. We offer part-time, full-time, before and after school, transportation, drop-in care, and three hot meals a day. We are set apart because we offer children the care, comfort, fun and safety they deserve. For the parents, we offer peace of mind from knowing that their child is in the best of hands.
We are most proud of the positive impact Sweet Start Childcare has made on so many families in just a few months as well as being able to deliver the quality care that we’ve promised since the very beginning.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Our goal is to open multiple locations in the DFW metroplex and surrounding cities, where we can offer the same quality childcare to many other families.
