Meet Norah Shazad

Today we’d like to introduce you to Norah Shazad.

Norah, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My father passed away when I was 12 years old, since then, life had hit pretty hard. I was in a deep depression for many years and found writing poetry the only therapy to my pain. I wrote the book Scarlet Rose & Growth as a transitional book beginning with more depressive poems, ending with poems more about growth. My second book is named Caged Thorns, with different themes throughout the book, it is planned to be published in January 2021. I signify myself as a rose because every rose has thorns (or troubles), but we all still bloom beautifully.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There were definitely many obstacles along the way, especially the many times I would hit the writer’s block and would prolong my work. Life after my father’s death had hit pretty hard and fast as well, but with the right mindset and motivation, I was able to get past the struggles. There were also other challenges along the way, but who doesn’t have adversities in life? Just the faith I have in myself, I know I’ll get through anything else that might try to block me from the future.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I have been writing poetry since I was 14 years old and had been doing art for a few years as well. I like to paint and sketch and have been successful in selling some paintings. I am also the author of the book Scarlet Rose and Growth, on Amazon. It’s about the growth over a span of years, my poems are more in a second person point-of-view so others perceive them with aspects in their own life. It has about 120 poems, 40 in the depressive portion, 40 in the transitional portion, and 40 in the growth of emotions portion. This book shows the reader that adversities do happen in our lives, but the way we react and continue to live is what truly affects us in the end. I am currently working on my second book, Caged Thorns, and that will be published in January 2021.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
In the future, I plan to be a child psychologist as well as be a poet and artist on the side. I am currently in school and am working to become a better poet also. I plan to perform my poetry in different surrounding cities and be known. I am very passionate about my writing just as much as I am passionate about helping others.
