Today we’d like to introduce you to Deera Lewis.
Hi Deera, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Lingerie has always been something that I have always love to wear. Whether it was just around the house, for a party, or for my love life, I just love to have a reason to put it on. The older I got, I noticed that a lot of women don’t like or care to wear lingerie. I begin to ask friends and family members why they didn’t like it and many of the responses I got was “I don’t think I look right in it” or “It doesn’t fit my body like it does on the models.” From that point, I begin to focus on different pieces that would restore that self-confidence into women, so whether you wanted to wear it for your own pleasure or you significant other, you would feel powerful and look beautiful while doing so.
When creating a business, there is so much to think about and I never wanted to limit myself to just one particular “crowd.” My goal and mission was to create a line for women of all different shapes and sizes. Dolce Revenge, which means “Sweet Revenge,” is to cater to all women. As women, we often get caught up in satisfying and taking care of everyone else that we lose ourselves in the mist without even noticing. As my business continues to grow, I pray and hope that more women understand that it doesn’t matter what size or shape you may be you are beautiful! Your shape is beautiful! And it’s ok to be sweet, but a little revenge is always better!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’m here to tell you now that the road has not been easy at all. Going through different vendors, making sure that pieces fit and what would sell and what won’t sell is probably the most stressful part when it comes to the business aspect of it. But I’m for myself, the most challenging part is believing in myself and believing that my business will flourish the way that I envision it to. I set so many dates on when I would drop my line and backed out on because I felt that it wasn’t ready.
One thing about myself I’m a perfectionist, but then again, what person isn’t. I think, well, I know I psyched myself out so many times thinking who would buy my pieces, there are a million people out here selling the same thing was one of my biggest problems I faced. It wasn’t until everyday I begin to tell myself, “You have to train your mind to stronger than everything else because when you think negative, negativity comes your way and when you think positive, the sky is the limit.” Everyday I remind myself and pray over my business that it will be bigger than I could have ever imagined. Of course, I have an amazing support system, but if you don’t believe in yourself, then you will always fail. Dolce Revenge is my baby and I know that we are going very far.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Dolce Revenge is all about restoring self-confidence. As a woman, our bodies change daily and we often get lost and caught up in daily routines we forget who we are. I know for myself being a full-time grad student, having a full-time job and creating a business literally drains me, but I try not to complain because everything is a process. My main goal is to remind women that no matter how hard life gets, the girl put you on some cute Dolce Revenge pieces, sip your wine, play your music and vibe. Lingerie/Cute sleepwear is my escape place even if I am at home. And I know when you think of lingerie, many people think of being half-naked. That is not the case here. Dolce Revenge offers more than just lingerie.
We offer beautiful sleepwear as well. And the fact that I can offer so many different pieces that will cater to younger and older women makes me proud. I am proud to know that I have to create a brand that will cater to every woman. Creating a brand that not only restores confidence but also has reasonable prices. Because let’s be honest, the prices make a huge difference. I put in so much time in figuring out how can I stand out from everyone else, why shop with Dolce Revenge. The only goal I kept thinking about was I want every woman to feel how I feel every time I put on lingerie or sleepwear and that’s to feel amazing.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I’m probably one of the most outgoing individuals that many people know. My personality is truly one of a kind and I’m always motivating others to keep pushing, whether it’s in their personal lives or business. JUST KEEP GOING! But, throughout this process, a lot of my close friends and family have a witness that I put so much pressure on myself in having the “perfect” brand that I begin to become so overwhelmed and begin second-guessing myself. I’m telling you now I’ve second-guessed and doubted myself so many times throughout this process.
It shocked many people close to me because that’s just not who I am and many of my close friends had to remind me of the positive and encouraging words that I have instilled within them back to me. It is so true when they say you cannot do everything on your own it’s okay to ask for help or just need to lean on someone and that is absolutely true because if it wasn’t for God, my own faith and my support system I wouldn’t be where I am right now. It’s all a learning process and you have to know that you can’t be the strong one all the time because we get sometimes lost too.
