Today we’d like to introduce you to Ginger Morgan.
Hi Ginger, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I enjoy baking and have always found it soothing. I love to cook and have been baking many years for friends and family. They began referring me to others to bake delicious delights for their special occasions. I did this for a couple of years before someone suggested I start a part-time business and Great Indulgences Baking was born. I chose the name Great Indulgences Baking because I believe every day is dessert day and people should indulge in moderation. My business tagline is ‘Go ahead and indulge, you deserve it!’.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As with any new business, getting customers outside of family and friends was challenging. I had to learn how to promote my business on social media. I also had to think outside the box to find a niche market. I did my research and realized a lot of people are gluten intolerant. The gluten-free baked goods at the grocery store were dry and tasted horrible. Most of Great Indulgences Baking’s items can be made gluten-free.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
In addition to my professional career, I added my passion for baking to my dossier. I love using my creativity to come up with new flavors for cakes and other baked goods. I have worked hard to refine my recipes and decorating style. I continually educate myself on the newest decorating trends. I work with my customers to create masterpieces that are beautiful and delicious. I am always adding items to my menu and make other baked goods such as cookies, brownies, and pies. Most of Great Indulgences Baking’s items can be made gluten-free. I enjoy seeing pictures of my creations posted on social media by my customers. I also appreciate the wonderful reviews Great Indulgences Baking receives from customers. Repeat customers are the best! This usually leads to more business from others they know.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking.
Risk taking is scary because we cannot see the outcome. You must jump in and see what happens. I had to ask myself if I could balance my new part-time business with a full-time career. After deciding to move forward, I asked myself if I wanted a brick-and-mortar location. And if not, would people order from a home-based business. Luckily, Texas has a great Cottage Law that allows home bakers to shine within certain guidelines. Home bakers working under the Texas Cottage Law must take a food handlers course every two years. If I had not jumped in, I would not be where I am today. Starting Great Indulgences Baking has taken me on an awesome journey that is priceless.
