Today we’d like to introduce you to Sean Lyles.
Hi Sean, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I would say that I’ve been on the path to pastoring for over 20 years. I was first licensed as a minister in 2000, in Memphis, TN (where I was born and raised). Since my teen years, I have served in many capacities in ministry. But starting a church and pastoring wasn’t something that I ever saw myself doing. On our first date, my now wife Kristy asked if I felt called to pastor and I emphatically told her “NO”.
But a little over a year into our marriage, I had a dream in which the Lord removed all doubt and told me that not only was I supposed to be a pastor but also that we were to start a church in DFW. I had been living in DFW for five years at this point. My pastor from Memphis called out of the blue and asked my wife and I about the church that he saw us starting. There was no way that he could have known that starting a church had been on our hearts, so we knew that he and, more importantly, that I had heard from God. This happened in the fall of 2018. And The Outpour Christian Church began April 21, 2019, on Resurrection Sunday.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The journey wasn’t always easy. In 2012, my mother passed away from cancer. Over a 15 month period, six close family members and friends passed away. Those deaths took a toll that took a little while to get over. But God is good and He kept me and really helped me throughout the grieving process.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Pastoring was the one thing that I was least interested in when I was younger but it has become one of the most fulfilling things that I have ever done. It is really our desire to see people free from past hurts, and mindsets that keep them from walking in purpose and destiny. I also have a passion to seeing people trained in the things of the ministry and established in the biblical truths. I firmly believe that church is meant to be participatory. It’s not just a time to come a spectate.
In addition to pastoring, I’m also a photographer. I’ve been published in two magazines and I’ve also authored a book entitled “Reign: Awakening the King Within” that is geared towards helping men believe who God has called them to be and to step into the role that God has called them to.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
The Outpour Christian Church is located at 2050 N Plano Rd Suite 400, Richardson TX 75082. Service is held Sundays at 9:30 am. We’re also launching our Tuesday NightOutpour and Bible Study beginning January 5th at 7:30pm. And I would love to see you at one of our services.
I am also currently working on a second book, so be on the lookout for that. And in 2021, I will be releasing a training course on helping men become more comfortable with being spiritual. I think a lot of times we leave certain aspects of spirituality to the women. One reason is that we don’t see a lot of men living that out in a relatable way. And my goal this year is to help combat the challenge that men face in that area
