Meet Emma Fox

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emma Fox.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Emma. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Nathan, Blake, and I met at college, where all three of us were music majors. Spring semester of our senior year in 2018, we formed Glenda. Nathan and I also got married that same year in May. Nathan is the drummer, Blake plays Bass, and I am the lead singer/guitar player/songwriter. Nathan and Blake are also professional audio engineers. We are literally able to bring a song from beginning to completion all within our team. Our recording studio is currently at the basement of a church in Irving. All three of us are looking to move to a house this year and move our studio to our home to make music creation as accessible as possible. In 2020, even in the middle of the pandemic, we were able to release two songs. And just released our third single last week. We are planning to release our first EP in March.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Personally, I struggle with social anxiety and legit stage fright. I am the biggest introvert and feel most comfortable curled up on my couch with my guitar writing my songs. Getting in front of people where all eyes are on, you is terrifying. I have had to work through my fear of failure and fear of people. Blake and Nathan have been extremely patient and encouraging with this.

Secondly, I think we have to work through differences in preferences on recording, mixing, and mastering our music. Sometimes one person will overanalyze our musical decisions or think too much about what “the people will want”. What we try to steady ourselves in is what does the song itself calls for.

We’d love to hear more about your band.
Glenda is a three-piece indie rock band made up of three best buds. Glenda’s sound is defined by our use of tight and dynamic grooves, bright oscillating guitars, and vulnerable songwriting focused on Truth. I try to write thoughtful, engaging lyrics and stories. Our most recent single, “Talking Walls”, is a story about a house witnessing occurrences of domestic violence and abuse. The house pleads for the victim to run and escape the abusive relationship.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success for us means creating music that is honest, beautiful and holds truth.
