Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Clayborne.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was in perfect health until a heart attack during labor at 26 years of age with a condition called Peripartum Cardiomyopathy. Most people recover from this disease within a few months to years but a very small percentage do not and go on to need further medical care. That was in 2010. Since that time, I have “died” and been defibrillated six times. From June 2015 until August 2016, she had spent a total of nine months in the hospital, away from my son. My heart had weakened further and I had to have a Left Ventricular Assist Device or LVAD placed just so that she could leave the hospital on a battery-operated heart.
During the nine months in the hospital, I decided to spend that “free time” wisely by starting a non-profit, Brittany Speaks. I also earned my Master’s Degree in ten months, taking only a month off after open heart LVAD surgery. After waiting three years, I received my heart transplant in January of 2018 and in December of 2018 was diagnosed with Stage 4 Lymphoma. Throughout 2019 I underwent chemotherapy, radiation, and cell therapy to finally be declared cancer free in 2020. Brittany Speaks awakens self-awareness by igniting intention, fueling passion, and inspiring transformation of the heart, mind, and soul.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
No, it has not been a smooth road. The struggle to find strength on my darkest days, days when I wanted nothing but death, has been the thing that has inspired me to use my story to help others find their strength.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a transformational speaker. I specialize in awakening awareness and igniting passion and transformation in my listeners. What makes me different is I’m not only speaking awareness and living in the moment, I’m living it and I’ve died enough times to know that tomorrow is too late to start. I offer to speak, one on one coaching, and community engagement programs. I am here to help people from all walks of life to become the best version of themselves. If they feel “stuck”, on repeat, out of place, etc, my program will assist them in moving into their purpose and transforming their lives into who and what they seek to be.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I feel the quality that is most important to my success is the fact that I’m not just speaking what I’ve learned from a book. I understand what it is to be in the trenches of self-doubt and emotional, as well as physical pain. I am able to take them by the hand and lead them into their next level of awareness using the map of my personal journey.
