Today we’d like to introduce you to DeAndra Davidson.
DeAndra, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Like a lot of businesses, we saw a need. After our venue search for our eldest daughter’s wedding, we realized there was a market for a rustic yet elegant venue and we knew of the perfect spot. We knew or hoped a venue would fit perfectly in our beautiful Pecan Orchard that we owned 15 years prior. With over 100 acres of pecan and oak trees as far as the eye can see, it was the perfect backdrop for not only weddings but all of the life’s special occasions. After a lot of research and sleepless nights we decided to go for it and broke ground February 2011.
A lot of work. Once we decided this is exactly what we wanted to do, the construction process itself was a job but the marketing and getting our name out there was a top priority. At the beginning, you drop everything for your business and that is exactly what we did, we lived and breathed The Orchard for years, but all our hard work has paid off. Now, thanks to all our wonderful clients, we have a very successful business.
Has it been a smooth road?
Well, of course, we had and continue to have struggles. In the construction process, we struggled with staying neutral yet having some flair.
When it came to marketing we struggled with where our best investments should go. With clients, we struggle with the best ways to serve them and their needs. With that being said, we try to face struggles head on and make the best decision in order to turn these struggles into improvements. Just as the wedding industry is changing, so is The Orchard.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into The Orchard Event Venue & Retreat story. Tell us more about the business.
We own and operate a wedding venue but it’s so much more. We are sharing a space for clients to make all their dreams and planning come alive. We get to partake in one of the biggest days of most family’s lives and it is very important to us that everything goes well for them and their guests.
We like to think we are known for being the best venue in the metroplex but we know we have a great group of competitors that make that an impossible statement. We are most known for our outdoor spaces amongst the Pecan Trees. We have a very unique space that you can’t find anywhere else.
What sets us apart from the others, of course, our views are one of a kind but another factor that sets us apart is our event space is large enough to host events of up to 400 guests. Most larger events are confined to hotels or conference centers. Now, these large events have another option that is unique and has a whole different feel than the ballrooms.
We also offer overnight accommodations, we have 15 cabins and a 6-bedroom lodge on property which allows our clients more time or even a weekend with family and friends.
What has been the proudest moment of your career so far?
A single proud moment is not possible to pinpoint. Just sharing in the joy of so many families is wonderful. Receiving phone calls and emails after events and hearing about how it truly was a perfect night makes us very proud to own The Orchard Event Venue and Retreat.
What are you most proud of as a company?
Without a doubt, our staff. We have the most amazing staff, our maintenance and housekeeping team keep our grounds and lodging impeccable, the ladies in the office keep The Orchard running smoothly and our event manager is irreplaceable. All of them truly care about our customers and always go above and beyond to make sure their experience is great from the time they sign the contract to the day of the event. It takes a village, and I’ve got a great one!
