Today we’d like to introduce you to Dustin Mills.
Dustin, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
During my senior year of high school, I suffered a debilitating injury ending my pursuit of playing college soccer and professional. I had no intention of becoming a personal trainer at the time, but my injury ignited a drive to strengthen my weakness, preventing the risk of another impairment. From there, I grew fond of creating programs that serve my self and my clients with their functional life needs. I have been a certified fitness professional since 2010. Over the years, I’ve invested into multiple certifications and license to help further my client’s progressions. What I mainly specialize in is functional training that is geared toward injury prevention and aesthetics.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My success as a fitness professional is from learning from my mistakes over the years. Nothing is ever smooth sailing. When I first jumped into personal training, I didn’t understand how to properly run a business. A lot of trial and error has come with the journey. The COVID-19 lockdown was a setback, and with not knowing what was going to happen in the next month or so, I had to adjust to current life situations. I trained people at a safe distance out of my town home and ventured more into virtual training.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a fitness professional with over a decade of experience. I have multiple certifications and license to make me more of a versatile trainer. I specialize in functional training that is geared toward injury prevention and aesthetics. Each of my clients goes through a customized program that will make them look their desired way while moving and feeling good in the process. What sets me apart from others is work ethic. I will work seven days a week. This is my passion and I truly enjoy seeing people not only reaching physical goals but also waking up without lower back or shoulder pain in the process.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Having a mentor is always great, especially for the mindset and skill for running your own business. There’s quite a few mentors I’ve looked up to over the past years that I can say have helped me reach goals I didn’t think were possible as a personal Trainer. Networking is a big part of the business. With how saturated our field is, you must get your name out and promote yourself as much as possible. Give out multiple complimentary sessions, have clients bring friends that have an interest, anyway you can build your brand to be someone thinks of first is ideal. Utilize social media platforms with quality content and do not worry about how many “likes” you get.
