Meet Efosa Airuehia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Efosa Airuehia.

Dr. Airuehia is quadruple Board-Certified in Psychiatry, Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, Addiction Medicine, and Lifestyle Medicine. Fondly referred to as Dr. Air, his psychiatry training commenced in the West Midlands School of Psychiatry, Birmingham, England, where he obtained his Membership with the Royal College of Psychiatrists, England (MRCPsych). He subsequently moved to the United States, where he completed three years of residency training in General Psychiatry and then an additional two years of training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry with the University of Missouri Columbia.

This was shortly followed by his board certification in Addiction Medicine. He is an Honorary Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, a Member of the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry and a Member of the American Board of Lifestyle Medicine. Dr. Airuehia’s extensive training and work experience place him in good stead to render individualized professional expertise in the management of adults with various mental health disorders and addictions, using evidence-based practices. Dr. Airuehia’s education and work in Nigeria, England and the United States presented him the unique exposure to patients from various ethnic backgrounds and socioeconomic statuses, and as such, a broad cultural overview as relates to patients with mental health issues.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been an interesting journey, schooling and working on three different continents. The culture changes have, however, become a strength, as experiencing multiple cultures has made me more rounded, not just clinically but also personally.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am the founder of Prime Wellness Center and Prime Psychiatry.

Prime Wellness Center is an outpatient addiction treatment facility. In addition to helping people struggling with drugs, alcohol and other addictions live better lives in recovery, we also incorporate wellness into our curriculum. Our wellness component is based on the tenets of lifestyle medicine such as exercise, nutrition, sleep hygiene, stress management, and social connectedness. Prime Wellness Center is committed to providing excellent addiction and mental health services through the provision of quality evidence-based care, leading to long-term recovery, allowing individuals and their families to achieve a purpose-driven and improved quality of life.

Prime Psychiatry is an outpatient mental health treatment facility. We offer medication management for mental health disorders such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, bipolar disorder, and ADHD. We also offer a transformational treatment for depression using Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS).

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I am a believer that the harder you work, the better your luck. Of course, I have been lucky to be in a position where I am able to help people struggling with mental health disorders and addiction, an opportunity I don’t take for granted.
