Life & Work with Alexis Monét

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Monét.

Hi Alexis, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started my journey in 2016 as a model in Dallas, Texas. I had just transferred to the University of North Texas, approaching graduation when a friend of mine recommended getting into the film/entertainment industry here in DFW. I decided to make it a point to meet amazing people who helped me get my foot in the door. I had been writing and creating stories my whole life but never thought of actually putting together my own production so soon. So before I delve headfirst into the film industry, I began doing fashion shows and photoshoots with amazing photographers here in DFW. Years progressed and I was able to be published in one of the biggest New York tattoo magazines with a 5-page spread, “247 ink magazine”.

On the contrary, I began writing and created my very first web-series in college prior to graduation. You can say I was back in forth between being in front of the camera and mastering the art of being behind the camera. I continued modeling after graduation to build relationships with people and it worked in my favor. I was able to walk in New York Fashion Week and get published a few more magazines. In 2019 I moved to Los Angeles to gather more resources for the bigger picture, which was film. I was blessed with the opportunity to be featured in a few national commercials, one being Mayvenn Hair. I was also in a few music videos such as, Lil Uzi Vert, Ozzy Osbourne, Johnny Gill, Ralph Tresvant, etc. I also worked on the set of ‘To Catch a Beautician’ with Tamar Braxton and ‘TKO- Total Knockout- with Kevin Hart. All while doing that, I was able to formulate a plan to create my own project, entitled the ‘A Milli Series’, which will premiere February 24, 2021, at 7:30 pm CT.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I don’t think anyone can say it’s been a smooth road. There have been so many ups and downs, especially with the pandemic. One struggle would have to be when I decided to move to LA away from my family for a dream. There are sacrifices that have to be made in order to build the life you desire.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am known for being a creative director, writer, actress and model. I worked in LA on many projects and started my career in Dallas, Texas. I am most proud of my recent project, the A Milli Series, because it was written, directed, edited, and produced by myself. What sets me apart from others is when I say I’m going to do something, I do it. I set a goal and I achieve that goal. I do not allow social media or the likes of others to cloud my judgment. Being creative is simply not for other people, it’s to please yourself. I take that approach in anything I do and that sets me apart.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My advice would simply be to not give up. It’s easier said than done, but no one will believe in your vision if you don’t believe in yourself. I would tell someone, make people respect you and your art by doing what you love at any cost. I wish I knew that starting out because I was so focused on other people and what they were doing, I did not find my true voice until I was far away from what I knew for so many years.
