Meet Tanya Stafford of Robbins Brothers in Addison

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tanya Stafford.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Tanya. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was sold a mattress that was too short for my husband! Being 6 ‘4″, we were newlyweds and living over 1,000 miles away from our family. We needed to buy an entire apartment full of furniture. When we went to do so, the salesperson, Candace, followed us around just writing down whatever we said we wanted. As we were headed to pay for it, it dawned on me that we didn’t have a mattress picked out. I pointed at one sitting in front of us, and said ‘that will work.’ She wrote it down and took us to collect our money.

When it was delivered, his feet hung off the bed – it was a full-size mattress (which is only 6’2″ in length). Frustrated and disappointed, it was clear to me that all she cared about was making a sale – and not our needs. I ultimately went to work in that very furniture store, with no experience in sales. I knew I would help people by listening to what they wanted, help them get what they truly needed (because people don’t know what they don’t know), and allow them to purchase the right things.

Years later, I was recruited to work in jewelry – and I carried this same mentality with me. I have been very fortunate to teach and train others to provide the same guest experience – and expertise – and to be sure when someone chooses to buy from them, they walk away feeling taken care of. The journey into jewelry happened over 20 years ago.

Has it been a smooth road?
Smooth road? If it were a smooth road, I wouldn’t have had the growth opportunities I’ve been given. Over half of my career has been with Robbins Brothers, as I am in my 12th year with our great company. Some of the struggles from previous jobs that led me to where I am were company cultures that contradicted my core values. I would stay, because of my responsibility to those that chose to accept a role and work with me. However, when it became apparent I needed to move to a different company, I found a way to bring those with me that felt the same way.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Robbins Brothers, The Engagement Ring Store story. Tell us more about the business.

Our industry is one of time-honored traditions. The engagement ring and wedding ring and what they represent isn’t going to change in the next decade.
