Hi Alex, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
After graduating from college, I realized that it was time to find my entrepreneurial passion. I looked up so many small business ideas on the internet but nothing seemed unique and something I would love to do, so I stopped. After a year of working paycheck to paycheck, I decided I needed to build some extra income sources. I started to think about things I loved doing. After coming back from a surprise birthday party for a friend I realized that I loved celebrating special occasions and making the best time out of it. This was the first thought of Yard Fiesta.
In October, 2020, I opened up Yard Fiesta! We allow the yard to join the party with yard signs. I get to spell out messages on people’s yards i.e “Happy Birthday!” “Congratulations” “Happy Retirement”, any type of occasion we can help celebrate. I get to see so many smiles every time I set up a yard sign, this makes the work so enjoyable! I get to celebrate everyday and I absolutely love it! I recently did my 100th Yard Fiesta, I can’t believe how fast time goes by whenever I’m having a blast!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Yard Fiesta is currently a one person operation so the work is definitely tough. I have a couple of mentors that also own businesses so I go to them for advice. The toughest challenge right now, is the time it takes away from other things in my life. The weekends are my busiest days, I usually have around 10 yard signs during the weekend. This has me waking up at 5am to do installs, finishing around 12pm then getting some rest and then going back out to pick up the signs. It does get tiring but then I remember what I used to do before which was just playing video games and wasting time. Yard Fiesta has the potential to grow and have employees so I keep looking towards the future and not letting the present grind to get me.
We’ve been impressed with Yard Fiesta, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Yard Fiesta lets your yard join the party with signs to display your occasion. We set up in the morning, then pick up at night so you get to have the signs for the day. We’re currently a one person operation, operating out of a small Mazda 3. We’re in our very humble beginning right now, so everything is small, but growing rapidly. I pride myself on making sure each sign fits the person, whether it’s a Tik Tok theme or a Fornite theme, I have signs for any type of person.
Yard Fiesta is different from the other yard sign companies because we offer a affordable option that still has a great look. I pride myself on staying an affordable option because not a lot of families have the means to pay $150+ for a yard sign like most companies charge. I love hearing “Wow! That’s a great price!” or “You’re the best price in town!” this brings a smile to my face because I’m able to help a family out without ruining their budget. The thing I’m most proud about Yard Fiesta is my customer service and the way I do business. I’m always a call or a Facebook message away at any time of day. I think it’s important to answer any questions that someone may have in a timely fashion. Another thing I’m proud about is my following on Facebook. I love whenever a customer posts a picture of their sign on Facebook and talks about how much they loved their sign. That is another profound thing about Yard Fiesta.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
I know everyone says it and it’s on every “Starting a new business” Youtube video… but the most important advice I could give is to Just Do It! Taking risks and going in head first is the only way to get something started and making it a reality. I had many ideas in my head for months and never acted. If you never act, you can never do.
