Today we’d like to introduce you to Cole Jackson.
Hi Cole, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
When I was around 12 years old, I downloaded a software called Audacity so that I could edit audio for some short films I was working on. I didn’t think much of it at the time, but this software helped me figure out how sounds were layered to create pieces of music. Around the same time, I was listening to a lot of electronic music and everything fell into place in a way. I started focusing on making electronic music as a simple hobby, but when I uploaded my songs, I realized that it might be something I wanted to pursue. I started going to a lot of shows in my area and shifted my focus to building a brand and turning my music into something beyond a hobby. Today, my biggest hope is that music connects to at least a few people. I look forward to shows coming back following COVID and hope to release more original music soon.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
In October of 2019, after spending a few years release music, I decided it was time to start performing live. I figured since I had gathered some decent plays and follows, it would be pretty simple to land an opening spot for artist who played in my area. I sent out a few emails looking to get booked for something and I heard absolutely nothing back. A few weeks later, entirely unrelated to the shows, I reached out to a record label called Electric Hawk after hearing that they were looking for new musicians. I quickly bonded with their team and they picked me up as an artist soon after. With an agent behind my belt, I figured we would take another shot at the same shows I had inquired about a month or two before. We emailed the promoter and heard back the following day that I was booked to open for Vincent and MELVV at their Dallas stop on their US tour. I still think about how crazy it was that one Twitter DM completely changed the course of my music.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Above anything, I am a fan of music. I love electronic music, however my heart also lies in Alternative music and Hip Hop. I believe this is reflected in my music because music should be more than simple audio. It should be an experience developed through every detail in the song itself, of course, but also the art or live performance that comes with it. The electronic music scene especially tends to be very oversaturated and, therefore fast paced. I believe that music is not intended to be so corporate as it has become. I want to be different from others in the sense that everything I release should matter. The best artists in the past would only release an album every few years, but now it is not uncommon for an artist to release multiple albums every year – and I believe this alone perfectly describes my trajectory.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
In my opinion, the most important quality for success is being genuine. Anyone can learn to make music or put on a show, but it’s the musicians that invest in being unique and true to themselves that have the most solid fan base and leave the biggest impact.
