Today we’d like to introduce you to Tony Rashad.
Hi Tony, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m originally from Pine Bluff, AR but I spent majority of my life in the Dallas Metroplex so I’m cultured by both! I always played sports as a youngin but my moms was a recording artist before I even came about, so it was always tucked away in me. Freestyling before games and at lunch tables kind of got me started, but it wasn’t until I hit college that I took on the recording path! Before going to my HBCU in Pine Bluff, I went to another school in Arkansas (Tech) pursuing a slight football career and met my bro JuJu, he from Lancaster near Dallas and he was already into recording and producing even though he was on the team too. So I popped up on him one day to kick it and he had his own little build up stu in his apartment, so I spit something… ending up dropping my first track… people was rocking with it and that’s what really triggered the drive I have for it to this day. Now everybody know me as music lol.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I wish the road was smooth, but ultimately the bumps is what I think made me the artist I am now. Every year it’s progression, and new things to learn and experience. I been through a lot of ups and downs, plus invested a lot of time and money. Therefore, I’ve also wanted to up and quit, or develop thoughts like this really ain’t for me… but I’m highly inspired by continuing the marathon so I turn all my losses to lessons for sure and try to capitalize off them.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Specifically I’m a writer/vocals artist. I’ve also produced my own beats here and there but I emphasize rapping and singing. I’m known for getting on any beat and using my versatility as an asset to set me apart from others. Plus you know what has to happen first, the work ethic has to be there so I take pride in that and respect peers and other artists who take they craft serious as well. With that being said, I say I’m most proud of how far along I’ve come, and what kind of reputation I have built on my name. No fraudulent activity, no capping for extra clout, and just staying authentic and true to myself and my supporters.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Only advice I can really pinpoint that’s mandatory, is building your network. Make connections with engineers, producers, artists, videographers, and don’t settle for low quality presentation. You definitely might go broke if you don’t go viral early so any thing you drop, treat it professionally because at the end of the day that’s the perspective you want onlookers to know is certain! At least that’s the philosophy for me
