Daily Inspiration: Meet Roshale Thompson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Roshale Thompson.

Roshale, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My story of how it all started is somewhat unique. As a young girl, my mom and I spent a lot of time baking homemade desserts together. Growing up, I enjoyed drawing, and in college I found an appreciation for art. With a love for both baking and art, I merged the two together and began designing custom cakes and sweet treats in my pastime. At first, I was a hobby baker in which I baked desserts for my family and friends. However, once other people tasted my cakes and sweet treats at events, they wanted to order deserts for various occasions. I received compliments about my highly addictive chocolate chip cookies, extremely yummy cakepops, and unbelievably moist cake and cupcakes. As the influx of requests were pouring in, a magical moment happened. Walla! Divalicious Delights was established on January 17, 2017 as a registered business. The name for Divalicious Delights was inspired by my favorite scripture ‭‭Psalm‬ ‭37:4‬ ‭NIV‬‬ “Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” Next, I completed my ServSafe certification and obtained all credentials necessary to operate my business. I also created a vision for my business, “Deliciousness that makes all occasions delightful!”

During this time, I had a career in Education. Instantly, I became an educator by day and a baker by night. At the onset of the pandemic in 2020, my business began to expand quickly. The demands for sweets reached an all-time high as we begin to offer contactless delivery. We delivered far North as Denton and far East as Sachse and Little Elm. We were booked monthly for birthdays, weddings, baby showers/gender reveals, graduations, and corporate events. When I started following my heart, I actually walked right into my destiny. After working 20 years as an Educator, I became a full-time entrepreneur within a blink of the eye.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would say the biggest obstacles that I have encountered as a business owner is due to growth. It is imperative to have a growth mindset, so my theory is without a challenge, there is no gain. As a business owner, my responsibilities include but are not limited to managing employees, orders, product quality, customer service, production, marketing/advertising, networking, and post-purchase follow-ups to ensure customer satisfaction. My experience over the years with multi-tasking helps; however, I had to learn to delegate because it’s impossible to do it all. We are a team, so we must work together synchronized as one. I’m thankful that my team fully embraces this concept. In addition, with expansion, we out grew our physical space especially since we are a home-based business. We need more space, and I know that our storefront will open in God’s perfect timing. As soon as we get a storefront, I’m looking to hire an assistant cake decorator and more employees. My goal is to keep the economy thriving by providing job opportunities for others. I’m super excited about what is to come because I truly believe in my heart that all things are possible.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We specialize in creating delicious treats that feel like heaven in your mouth! We became well-known as a “One Stop Bakery Shop” because not only do we bake custom cakes, we also make themed cupcakes, cakepops, cakesicles, dipped strawberries, dipped pretzels, dipped Rice Krispies, dipped Oreos, decorated cookies, decorated cake donuts, and candy apples. Also, we bake poundcakes, grandma’s cookies, banana pudding, peach cobbler, and dessert bars. We use the freshest, high quality ingredients in all of our homemade desserts. We’re known for our moist, delectable cakes and tasty sweets.

Moreover, I believe one thing that sets us apart is our ability to make our customers’ events extra special. Some of our customers have been with us from their first order of an engagement cake, and since then we have made their bridal shower cake, wedding cake, gender reveal cake, baby shower cake, and now they come back for all of their family’s birthday cakes. We strive to always provide an element of surprise for each and every order. Often times, our customers tell us that we have exceeded their expectations, and they are eager with anticipation of ordering for their next event. Because we truly enjoy getting to know our customers and listen closely their needs, we’re able to bring their vision to life for any occasion. Creativity is art, and it gives me joy to know that I create a lifetime of memories for our customers. My work of art evokes happiness, excitement, and hope for so many customers, and they will cherish this moment for the rest of their lives.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Collaboration is definitely important to the success of any business. I would love to collaborate with a group of wedding venues, event planners, photographers, and other business owners in the community. With collaboration, we can support and help one another. It’s always great to be able to share ideas, celebrations, and concerns with others who understand what you are experiencing. Also, my heart desires to start programs that give back to the community. Since I have a passion for mentoring and educating aspiring bakers, I’ll begin there. “Our goals become dreams and our dreams are reality.” Roshale Thompson
