Today we’d like to introduce you to Mark Reding.
Mark, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started training in martial arts when I was 13 years old in 1991. After my first class, I knew I would be doing it the rest of my life. I never went to college. Upon graduation from high school, I opened my own school in 1996. In 2017 I opened my second school. I have been in business in my hometown I grew up and was raised in now for 21 years. I have and still continue to travel the world competing and learning and growing with the martial arts. I have met many great people on my journey and it is still growing day by day. I feel very fortunate to have found my passion at such an early age and grateful to have amazing students that have come to me for so many years for guidance.
Has it been a smooth road?
No business is completely smooth being open 21 years. But I can tell you this…… It’s been an amazing ride and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. To be quite honest I am now 40 years old and I have accomplished everything I have wanted business wise. When you love your work, every day it’s a blessing to get to teach the people who trust and believe in you.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Reding Martial Arts story. Tell us more about the business.
I am the owner of reding martial arts. I run 85-90 percent of all classes. The others my top students help me with. I specialize in teaching martial arts to anyone who wants to learn. I would say I’m most proud that I get to teach martial arts in the town I was born and raised and grew up in. I love my town and the community here. We have worked hard to maintain the top martial arts school in the Denton area and I absolutely feel like we have accomplished that and continue to do so. What’s sets me apart ….. that’s a good question and hard to answer in a short sentence but in short, I’ll say customer service. I pride our school on great customer service and strong character traits.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I see it growing bigger and bigger. And I feel like this field of interest has something for everyone.
