Hidden Gems: Meet Apree Clicque of Dallas Therapeutic Services

Today we’d like to introduce you to Apree Clicque.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
After graduating with my Masters, I moved around to a few levels of therapeutic care: residential, outpatient and private practice. During that time, a fellow therapist and I began talking more about what it would be like to create a business model based on a healthy culture. I had also been spending time volunteering with a group called Team Rubicon, where this idea of culture was really driven into my values. It just became crystal clear how important it is for people to feel safe and validated within the cultural context of their environment. Eventually, I – along with my business partners, Mika Smith and Zakia Inyang – created Dallas Therapeutic Services, which is a mental health private practice in Las Colinas. We have been striving (some times successfully and some times not!) to create a thriving environment where people want to work and feel more like family than employees. Outside of work and volunteering, my life is filled with family. I have two nephews that I adore and try to spend copious amounts of time with.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has for sure not been a smooth road. There is an awesome quote – The Man in the Arena by Theodore Roosevelt – where he talks about how it does not matter if you win or lose so long as you are showing up and continuing the good fight. I absolutely believe that is true. Even at some of our low points – professionally and personally – I am proud of the steps we have taken to learn from those events and keep moving forward with our goals. I think the one I have learned the most from is my reaction to events. Being an impatient person by nature, I have a tendency to want to just react. Unfortunately, that can lead to forgetting how my actions may impact others and have had to work through some of those issues with others. Learning to be slow to react and really consider the potential ripple effects has been one of the greatest struggles. I also struggled pretty hardcore with depression during my undergraduate. During that time, one of my close friends died, and it was a real game-changer. Put life into perspective and made me want to do more with whatever time I had. Now, I strive to use every second I can in the service of others.

We’ve been impressed with Dallas Therapeutic Services, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Dallas Therapeutic Services is a mental health private practice in Las Colinas. With 15 therapists, we are able to meet the needs of most clients, ranging from anxiety, depression, PTSD, LGBTQ+, couples, adolescents, play therapy and so forth. Personally, I specialize in working with military, first responders and complex PTSD. I hope what sets us apart is our desire to create the healthiest culture possible for our clinicians. We want people to want to be here and firmly believe that translates to their work with their clients. We offer just about everything in regard to treatment: EMDR, CBT, CPT, DBT, OCD specific work, Gottman work with couples and Mindfulness. Additionally, we are beginning to offer psychological testing to better understand diagnoses, more effective treatment options and possible co-occurring disorders.

What makes you happy?
People. People make me happy. I love finding out what drives people and helping them figure out ways of utilizing their natural skills and talents. It is also why I spend a significant amount of time volunteering, mostly with Team Rubicon. I cannot stress enough how great not only they are but in general, being in the service of others is for the soul. It is a way of just feeling connected in the community and gives this incredible sense of purpose.
