Check Out Hillary Bergman-Stanton’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hillary Bergman-Stanton.

Hi Hillary, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started singing professionally on stage when I was only six years old. I did a talent competition at Casa Manana and tied for first place with another girl that was my age. Her name was LeAnn Rimes. In the audience, that evening was a man named Johnnie High. He ran a very popular weekly country music variety show called Johnnie High’s Country Music Revue, and he invited me to come audition for his show. I spent the next 20 years singing on his stage. His show blessed me with so many friendships and amazing experiences that I still cherish today. I went on to sing in Branson, Missouri and Nashville Tennessee, before marrying my husband, Brian and starting my own family. I still sang occasionally but took time to focus on my family. But then my life got turned upside down in 2019 when my Dad passed away very suddenly and unexpectedly. It shook me to my core. He was only 65 years old. It made me realize how short life is.

Two weeks later, we listed our house for sale (we were living in Waco) at the time, and we moved back to my hometown. I made the decision that it was time to get my music career going again… I was going to start a band! I had never done this before and was in uncharted territory. I bought a sound system, talked some great friends into joining this crazy dream with me, and the result was Texas High Road! I wanted my band name to have a nod to Johnnie High because, without him and his show, I honestly don’t know what I would be doing today. Or if I would even be singing at all! Texas High Road is two female lead singers. The other is Stephanie Pruitt, who I met when I was a teenager singing at Johnnie Highs. Our voices blend so well, and we both sing harmony, so it really works out nicely. Working with a great friend that you’ve known forever makes it even more fun! I can’t wait to see where this journey takes me, and I’d like to think that my Dad is smiling down on me. He was my biggest fan.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I started my band in January of 2020, and then Covid happened in March. Despite Covid, we have still somehow been able to stay busy!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’ve been a professional singer/performer for 33 years. I started singing at a very young age. I didn’t have a typical childhood, but it was amazing.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I don’t believe in luck. I believe in God and His path and favor for my life. Covid happened right after I started my band, and it definitely put a kink in MY plan, but HIS plan was so much better! It gave me time to learn how to start a business from the ground up. It gave us time to work out our shows, our bookings, etc.
