Community Highlights: Meet Flor Ortiz of Girly Things Lashes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Flor Ortiz.

Hi Flor, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I crossed the Mexican border with my pregnant mother when I was only five years old in search of that American dream. I’ve encountered so many obstacles as an immigrant, but I like to think that thanks to everything that I’ve had to endure I am exactly where I am supposed to be. My main dream and goal in life is to make my parents and kids proud. Hopefully one day, they feel like all their sacrifices were worth it. My online business went live in the middle of the pandemic in May 2020, and this was when TikTok was blooming as well. I made a few videos there and they went viral which made my online business skyrocket.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As an immigrant, there were so many obstacles in my life; from not being able to feel like I fit in with everyone else to not having the same opportunities. Coming to this country without any money, having to learn a new language and adjusting was very difficult. My parents have always taught me that it doesn’t matter how many times I fall but how many I get up, and my hunger for success comes from all those obstacles and not having it as easy as most.

As you know, we’re big fans of Girly Things Lashes. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about the brand?
Girly Things Lashes started off as a dream. I love makeup and lashes; and I’ve always wanted to be my own boss, so I took a leap of faith and opened up my online business. Girly Things is known for amazing quality lashes at an affordable price with very cute packaging. I try to come up with innovative collections and keep my followers and customers guessing as to what’s next.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
In the next 5-10 years I see myself owning multiple businesses and being that momtrepenuer inspiring other mommies to go and make their dreams a reality. I plan on expanding my knowledge in every aspect of the beauty industry and to soon open a bricks and mortar.
