Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Washington.
Hi Danielle, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’m Dani, wife and mother of three. I’m all things creative. I love using my creativity to create things that can help others to make their lives easier. Being an administrator at heart, I’m always looking for unique ideas and ways to make tasks a little more simple for people. Starting an online onesie store in early 2019, I wanted to create fun and exciting outfits for babies. Using the onesies, I created awesome baby shower gifts by turning onesies into treats like cupcakes, ice cream, lollipops, onesie cakes (like a diaper cakes but with onesies) and onesie wreaths. These were exciting gifts to help make it easy for families to celebrate new life. Later in 2019, after becoming a first-time foster mom. I quickly became overwhelmed by all of the paperwork and documentation that was required. I soon learned that other foster parents shared in my frustration. I set out to find an app that would help me keep up with all the information. And while there are tons of apps that allow me to do various different tasks and several apps dedicated to co-parenting, there were none that were all in one app and none specifically for foster care. So I decided to create one, this would not only help me as a foster mom but other foster parents too. The Foster Accountability app is currently in development and set to release mid-spring/early summer.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Life is filled with obstacles and challenges and nothing great will ever be a fairly smooth road. The biggest challenge I seem to face is getting in my own way. Trying to convince myself that I am good enough, that my ideas are great, and my creativity will make an impact. So many times we measure our success by what others do and how others receive our ideas. When the truth is, the people we impact the most may never say a thing, we just have to trust that what we do will always inspire and encourage someone somewhere and to never give up on what we’re doing. A life without obstacles isn’t even really life.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My passion for helping foster parents through their journey is really important to me. I believe that having that support will help them to be the best they can be for the children in their care which in turn can change the impact they have on the child. I think the proper tools and resources will make a major difference. And what better place to start than with the Foster Accountability app. It eliminates the hassle of using multiple applications to manage, track, and report activities for foster children. It gives foster and kinship parents the ability to communicate with birth parents without the stress of having to share personal information. It also allows them to hold birth parents accountable for visitations with their children. Being able to do all of this, schedule appointments, and generate monthly reports that include notes and conversations that are date and time-stamped that can be exported for caseworker reporting purposes, all within one app, is a great start in that direction.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I grew up in Wichita, KS. I’m very grateful for my hometown and where I grew up. Having parents to really instill value and love was absolutely necessary for the life I became to know. We were always taught the importance of treating people with respect and honor. Regardless of what anyone did or said to us, we are only responsible for our actions. This is a life lesson that I will forever be grateful for and instill in my children as well.
