Hi Mary, so great to have you join us again. For folks who might have missed our earlier conversations, can you please take a minute to briefly introduce yourself?
My name is Mary Morgan and I am a retired teacher/professor. I taught for a combined 30 years. In Dallas I taught at Trinity Christian Academy and Prestonwood Christian Academy. After I received my Master Degree from TWU I became an adjunct professor in the visual art department at Dallas Baptist University where I finished my teaching career. I am currently a working artist. I am working out of my home since Covid-19.

What are you currently working on?
I am working on several different things. I am working on a large commission mixed mediums painting that I plan to finish soon. I am also working on several different abstract paintings.

How does this impact your life without a large studio to work in?
It is often difficult and challenging but I try to concentrate on the work not the circumstances. I cannot do too many things at my house at the same time. I am leasing a friend’s workshop in her garage for smaller works.

What are your future goals for continued progress in your artwork?
My future goals are: to continue to paint expressions from my life’s journey, to lease a large studio space, to build community service, to help others understand the visual arts and artists, to encourage young artists to develop their skills and knowledge. Lastly, I would like to do a residency before I get too old to travel.

If you acquire a large studio space what do you hope to use the space for?
I would use the space to do not only large works but to do all my art and to store it. I would also entertain the idea of using the space for community services so that young artists could visit. Perhaps I could set up a mentoring type of service where I could have an opportunity to help them develop. This would all be free services for selective artists.

How important is for you to give back to the community?
It is one of my goals to help the community to better understand the visual arts and artists. One way of doing this is to offer my knowledge and my experience. The details of how this happens is still a process about finding the right studio and financial support.

What obstacles do you need to overcome to achieve your long-term goals?
The first obstacle is finding the right studio large enough to incorporate my idea of “community service”. The second obstacle is a financial problem. In order to support a large studio, I would need some help. I would like to seek people who believe in me and my idea to help. I would probably need some help in finding the right people for financial support.

It was so great to reconnect. One last question – how can our readers connect with you, learn more or support you?
