Meet Charity Young

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Charity Young. Charity was introduced to us by the brilliant and talented Ginger Curtis.

Hi Charity, we’re so thrilled to have you sharing your story with us today. Maybe we can kick things off by having you introduce yourself to our readers? We’d love to have you go into your story and how you got to where you are today.
My story begins at a very young age. As far back as I can remember, I’ve always expressed myself through art and music, even as a young child. I grew up in an abusive, chaotic, tumultuous home, so I found a lot of solace in the expression of art and music. As I became an adult, art, and music still very much serve as a refuge of expression and solace. I started a multi-ethnic band, Kingdom Vibes, a few years ago, and we perform locally in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Our music consists of r&b, blues, jazz, and pop styles with an underlying positive message. We love to love on people through our music and encourage those around us. I’ve also released three singles in the last year that are available on all musical platforms. And most recently, I’ve launched a jewelry business called 76 Collection Co to encourage and lift up other women. It’s something I love to do, and I’m super proud of it!

Please talk to us about your creative work and career. What should we know?
I have been involved in several artistic mediums in the last few years, including painting, drawing, music, and jewelry making. You can find most of my work @artandmusicbycharity on Instagram and Facebook. I have little to no training in art or music, but I absolutely love (and sometimes hate) pushing through the fear of failure or rejection and putting myself out there artistically speaking. I have three singles I’ve released in the last year that are available on all musical platforms. I’ve most recently started a hand-made jewelry company called 76 Collective Co to encourage other women. I love speaking into the lives of other women and encouraging and empowering them to be all they were created to be!

As you know, we’re big fans of Ginger Curtis, her design firm Urbanology Designs, as well as her event space, The Urban Firehouse. We know you’ve worked with her quite a bit as well. We’d love to hear about your experience working with Ginger Curtis and The Urban Firehouse.
As a musician, I thoroughly enjoyed singing/playing at the Urban Firehouse. There are a lot of flat surfaces that allow for bounce and sound travel. You can easily fill the space with sound without blasting your levels. It’s very conducive to both an acoustic set or a full-band gig.

The venue is very accessible for large equipment to be delivered right through the front door! Just pull up and load/unload quickly and easily. Because of the intimate size of the venue, it’s an excellent place to experience musical entertainment! There’s even an outdoor area with convenient access for electrical hookups for any equipment needs so you can entertain indoors or outdoors or both.

The ambiance of the Urban Firehouse is light, bright, airy, and modern, perfect for a three-piece trio or a full-size band. I’ve personally performed at two events at the firehouse – one with a four-piece band and one with a five-piece band. Both times, the audience was thoroughly engaged and enjoyed themselves. The entire venue is gorgeous, so no matter where you set up, you can’t go wrong. I highly recommend any musician to play here if you get the opportunity!!
