Today we’d like to introduce you to Sunita S.
Hi Sunita, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Growing up in a household that revered creativity, arts, books & food, my education in the creative field followed by forced cooking (read motherhood) is what shaped my interest in launching my YouTube channel. Food is an integral part of all Indian families where moms, grandmas (and sometimes grandpas) lovingly prepare food from scratch.
Some of my earliest and best memories revolve around food – from the aroma of food pulling me into the kitchen & me tugging at my grandma’s dress to ask her what’s for lunch, to setting the table for our large family gatherings or peeling off onion skins to fetching ingredients from the fridge for my grandma.
On the other hand, my mother introduced me to a world of unfamiliar food like carambola (starfruit), pitaya (dragon fruit), and rambutan; which were not locally grown or unheard of, at the time in India.
This love of unfamiliar food grew onto me and led me to experiment with or cook new foods. My taste buds and weekend cooking projects became as diverse and adventurous as they could get. My journey from India to the US with numerous stopovers brought me in contact with different people from various cultural backgrounds, not to forget the close encounter with the palatable kind.
Once Covid hit our lives, it made me realize how detached I had become from my creative side. With being stuck at home with kids, it was time to turn over a new leaf. I redirected my energies into learning something new & gratifying. I worked on my skills learning product photography, video editing & content creation and six months later, RecipeForte was launched amidst pandemic 2020, on YouTube.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
For me cooking comes easy but the content creation and product photography was the challenge. Once I started learning about photography & shooting from the comfort of my home, I became better at it. It was frustrating initially and without the right kind of equipment, the content wasn’t satisfying enough to be rolled out in public. Over the time, it got better and the quality content I’ve been able to produce recently is a colossal improvement from what it was six months back. I still have to invest in a good camera & lights and be done with “Game of Phones!”.
There’s a lot to accomplish – build my website, add more videos on YouTube, connect with followers on Instagram & Facebook, basically have a better outreach. There are a whole lot of big dreams in these little eyes!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a fashion/apparel industry professional. I was working as an account executive with one of the leading apparel and accessory manufacturers of branded & licensed merchandise. In the past, I’ve worked with some of the leading brands, manufacturers, vendors, exporters, both in India and the US.
I founded RecipeForte in 2020 as a brand that brings awareness to the masses on the importance of cooking and eating fresh food. My brand’s motto is “More of Farm (fresh) leads to less of Pharm(acy).”
RecipeForte’s mission is simple: Inspire people to indulge in clean, healthy & fresh food so as to lead a fit, vibrant and abundant life.
As an immigrant, I’m proud of creating this beautiful life in the US. I’m proud of all the challenges I’ve overcome in the past that turned me into this confident person. I’m proud of taking the first step towards building this brand and finally chasing my true dream!
My ability to create informative videos that the audience can easily connect with and the zeal to bring about social awareness on eating right is what sets RecipeForte apart from other cooking channels. Social media has given entrepreneurs a platform to change the world and my intent is to unreservedly wield it.
How do you define success?
There isn’t a single definition of success that would apply to all. Success to me is living a healthy life that is emotionally, physically and spiritually fulfilling. Success is not being burnt-out, being able to work with passion and maintaining a healthy work/life balance.
As Dalai Lama said – “Judge your success by what you had to give up in order to get it.”
In the current scenario, watching your healthy, happy, smiling kids is true success. Receiving adulation for your work and how it inspires people to try something new, something healthy, is a success. I’m not the one to brag but receiving a comment on YouTube from the direct descendant of Alfredo Di Lelio (the original creator of Alfredo Fettuccine) was a defining and morale-boosting moment for me. Moments like these invigorate and encourage me to strive better at work.
