Today we’d like to introduce you to James Jackson.
Hi James, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve always been blessed enough to have technology be a part of my life. Having a father who was in the technology field in the ’80s allowed me access to computers at an early age. That started my love for technology, and ever since, it has grown. I wasn’t successful at college, but always had a plan and knew that my dream of being an entrepreneur would come true if I kept betting on myself. I had a couple failed businesses, but I learned from each one. Those failures, in addition to being fortunate to have people along my professional journey, believe in me and help me achieve goals that put me in a position to one day own and run a IT-based franchise.
When me and my father decided to go all in and open a TeamLogic IT franchise in Irving, TX, it was the perfect business for me. I’m able to do what I love in technology but also help those in my community who have businesses of their own. TeamLogic IT of Irving allows me to do my part in building up my community and to be able to make a difference for other business owners by allowing them to focus on the business. The best part of this new journey is being able to be in business with my father and check off a bucket list item by owning a franchise, but more importantly, I was able to add on to our family legacy and have another asset I could pass down to my kids.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Some of the biggest obstacles we faced during our first year in business was having to revamp our business strategy on the fly due to COVID-19. We had spent over eight months planning our go-live date just to have everything shut down a week before opening. So much of IT services is seeing the IT infrastructure first hand, but with COVID being such a new part of our lives, we had to find creative ways to engage with potential clients to service their needs while continuing to keep safety first. The other major challenge we faced was name recognition in the community. Being that we opened during COVID, we had to find ways to get our name and brand out there without the benefit of networking events and other types of social settings. Fortunately for us, we had done such of great job of pivoting our marketing plan to be able to not only allow us to get our name out in the community but to also help expand our footprint of where our customers are located.
