Today we’d like to introduce you to TJ Washington.
Hi TJ, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My entire adult life has been focused on endeavors involved in the sports and entertainment industry. I’ve worked several jobs and internships along my path that have given me the experience to achieve my ultimate objective to impact the lives of others. My given name, Lotario means, “Man of Change.” I’ve been taught all my life, whatever path I take, I am called to make a difference.
I started my entrepreneurial trek in the music business. I’ve formed and managed local recording artists that performed at venues around the state of Texas, especially the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. Later on, I started my first business, Drop City Multi-Media, which focused on developing young artists and helping them realize their dreams. I had a production studio, sound engineers, videographers and a marketing team to assist young talents in accomplishing their dreams.
While I worked with various artists, I was drawn into working with the youth to develop basketball skills. I got great joy out of the process and continued for a several years. In the meantime, my music endeavors expanded to incorporate a broader entertainment theme which included building marketing profiles for athletes.
In 2015, I saw a newsfeed for an internship with a sports agency in the Dallas area and over the next five years, I worked as an Agent Advisor and eventually became a Managing Partner while working with my third agency. During this time, I discovered my values to impact the lives of others were not being met under the vision of the other agencies whose stated objective was becoming “the next multi-,million-dollar agency.” I have never believed making money and helping others were diametrically opposing or mutually exclusive philosophies.
In 2020, I started my own full-service sports and entertainment management firm, ProMade Management. My vision is to be a premiere sports and entertainment firm who manages influential talents and utilize their likeness to make a positive impact around the world. We work with players and entertainers who desire to succeed in their field as well as give back to their communities.
As a “man of change,” I hope to leave a legacy of positive impact in the sports and entertainment industry by partnering with other who have had enough of the status quo. I look to partner with others who are ready to give themselves and make a difference both on and off the stage, court or field.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
When you’re a novice in the sports and entertainment realm, the big fish and the sharks are looking for guppies to take advantage of and ready to devour. So yes, I had struggles in seeking guidance, putting trust in the wrong people, or the lack of building with other agents because they perceive me as competition. The transition from then until now came with adversity, but I’ve learned very important lessons that can’t be taught from a book or class setting.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about ProMade Management?
ProMade Management is a fully serviced sports and entertainment management firm who manages talents affairs within the basketball, football, acting or influencer spectrums. We manage everything from job acquisitions, contract negotiations, personal management, talent development, marketing, public relations, secure endorsement and ambassador deals, legal services, and financial advisory. We are different than most sports and entertainment agencies because we are black-owned and our focus is to make a positive impact on lives in our communities.
Can you talk about how you think about risk?
Keep in mind, most startup businesses fail within their first year of business. Anything you start in life is a potential risk of it thriving or plummeting. In this case, failure isn’t an option for me because I have too much to lose, so it’s a must I come up with solutions to be victorious. I took the risk because I believe I will break my family’s generational curse and I want to live with a purpose.
