Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Girnas.
Kelly, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
After 15 years in the event and tourism industry, when Covid began, my career ended. I have always enjoyed cooking and creating. I started experimenting with flavored popcorn. My family and friends enjoyed the popcorn so much, they encouraged me to sell it. Wish Pops was born. As things begin to open up and celebrations begin again, I hope to plan more “popcorn popups” and themed events.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Everyday brings new challenges. Wish Pops is less than a year old. I began the business on a shoestring budget during a pandemic. The economy is still suffering and not fully open yet. Maybe I am crazy, but I feel like 2020 freed my mind & heart from the typical worries. Covid and its life and death implications enabled me to take a chance and pursue something new. Life is short maybe cliche’, but it is also very true, and last year was a very strong reminder!
As you know, we’re big fans of Wish Pops. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Wish Pops was created out of passion and necessity. My passion for creating, whether it be crafting, writing poetry or cooking and entertaining, is what propels me to imagine interesting popcorn flavors and take my business to new levels of ingenuity. Necessity because the pandemic left me, like so many others, unemployed, and I needed to figure out what I could do to change that fact.
I am proud that I was willing to take a chance at the worst possible time to start a new venture and just go for it. My creative passion goes into every bag of popcorn. Whether it be pop rocks pop, cali pop or dark chocolate chili lime pop, among many other flavors, each kernel is treated with care. It truly excites me to think up new flavors and experience how much people enjoy them! Popcorn evokes nostalgia which is wonderful, but I hope to help people create new memories with Wish Pops. Celebrations, corporate meetings & weddings – whatever it may be, I want Wish Pops to be part of making those events delicious, fun and memorable!
What are your plans for the future?
As more celebrations begin to once again take place, I would love for Wish Pops to be part of those events. My planner experience has definitely been a benefit! I am also in the process of creating “Pop & Go” tour snacks. I serve on the DFW Area Tour Guide Association Board (www.dfwtourguides.com) and I know the value of a delicious tour snack. 😉
As someone who believes in giving back to the community, a portion of each Wish Pops sale benefits a local charity. As the company grows, I would like to become even more involved in charitable giving.
