Today we’d like to introduce you to Kacey Williams.
Hi Kacey, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Well, I was diagnosed with Stage 1 Ovarian Cancer in June 2020 I initially went in to have fibroids removed when my ObGyn diagnosed me with Granulosa Cell Tumors (Ovarian Cancer) so that meant I had to have a second surgery in August 2020 which cause me to have a full hysterectomy. My journey consisted of me having to do 6 rounds of chemo started on September 15, 2020 and ending December 29,2020. I’m currently in remission as of March 2021 with God on my side and having a mustard seed of faith I was able to make it through my journey with Strong Faith and the love and support of my family and friends. How I begin my mission to help put smiles on the faces of others is during the holidays, my daughter, who is 16, saw a Survivor Doll at Walmart and she bought it for me since it represents my journey and others that’s on the same journey as myself. So since losing my hair was one of my hardest issues throughout my journey I thought that it would be awesome to share the Survivor Doll with others. So I decided to campaign on my FB to ask my friends and family for $20 so that I could collect as many of these dolls as I possibly could and it all started from that one moment and I collected roughly 300 dolls to donate. I have donated to children’s hospitals in Texas, New York, Atlanta, Mississippi and to random kids and adults that may be referred to me. I have started Kaceys’KeepSakes where I sell items with my logo and a cartoon drawing of myself on coffee mugs, earrings, socks and others to raise money to help families caring for others battling cancer or any other illness.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it has not been a smooth road. Being diagnosed was hard in itself but because I lost my mom in 2018, that made it even harder because I didn’t have her physically here with me. Then having to be strong for my husband whom had a mental break down because he was unsure of the outcome and my daughter, whom I didn’t want to see me laying around sick, I had to push myself even when I was not having good days after doing chemo I still had to be strong for my family.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I put smiles on the faces of others that’s on the same journey as myself, I try to help them keep a positive attitude about their journey and donate Survivor Dolls and I make them bracelets to represent their journey along with their loved ones a bracelet to represent them as being their care giver on the journey with them. What sets me apart is that I allow God to use me as a willing vessel daily to do His work not mine I do not take credit for any of this it’s a God thing. I feel this is bigger than me so it is a must I motivate the next person on their journey.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
No, I don’t have any advice word of mouth is how I have spread the word about my mission and social media.
