Conversations with JaCoby V. Armstrong

Today we’d like to introduce you to JaCoby V. Armstrong.

Hi JaCoby, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Born to Marla and Clemente Armstrong on February 12, 1995, at 21 weeks in Dallas, Texas, I heard stories of my near-death experiences. As you can see by the writing of this article, I surpassed all medical expectations. I spent my life as a student-athlete in all grades beginning in the 6th grade. During my high school and college years, I also participated in mentorships to youths of all ages. While in college, I began my own mentorship program,

Over the past five years, I have conducted research on mental behaviors, specifically those occurring amongst student-athletes. During my years in college at The University of New Hampshire, I experienced firsthand many types and stages of behaviors associated with mental illness; however it was not until I entered into self-therapy that I began to recognize and understand mental illness more. As real-life experiences occurred, I learned to incorporate prayer, therapy, and therapy. From journaling, I then decided to write my own book that will empower and give hope to those who might not recognize behaviors, mannerisms, thoughts, feelings, and emotions that can lead to a mental breakdown.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road however, I am overcoming the day-to-day challenges as I now recognize many of my triggers. Recently, with the onset of the pandemic, I could see and feel heightened anxiety not only within myself but within the tone in other countries and in the U.S. This level of anxiety and despair was different for me. Thankfully, because I had the tools and resources learned prior, I was able to incorporate them into my day-to-day.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As a Professional Basketball player playing overseas, published author, I consider myself a powerful force on and off the court. In addition, I recently activated my weekly podcast, PAY ATTENTION, which is powered on the GForce Internet radio. My podcast allows me the opportunity to discuss life, relationship, sport, and cultural experiences in a way that will make you ask yourself, “Are you taking care of your Mental Self?” Overall my mission is to use my positive attitude and tireless energy to empower others to work hard and succeed.

Since my youth, I excelled in football and basketball. My basketball prowess earned me a full athletic scholarship to The University of New Hampshire in 2013. During my time there, I was instrumental in helping the team become the all-time winningest basketball team in UNH basketball history. After completing my undergraduate degree and post-graduate studies, I made the decision to further his basketball career by playing basketball professionally overseas. I signed with the Mgzavrebi-Armia Tbilisi in the Georgia – Superleague. The following year, I signed to play for Romania’s Liga National. In 2020, I signed to play in Finland. My time in Finland overlapped with the onset of COVID, which resulted enclosures.

I am most proud of becoming a published author. My book, PAY ATTENTION, “Are you taking care of your Mental Self?” chronicles my life journey with mental illness. What sets me apart from others? I think my honesty, loyalty, and passion to increase awareness related to mental health sets me apart. Not that others do not present these traits, I just really am passionate about helping all – as many times, some people do not know they need help.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
