Today we’d like to introduce you to Xavery Scott.
Hi Xavery, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Always a self-starter, I founded a music production club in middle school, earned my first college degree in Audio Production while still in high school, and now, after working in Los Angeles, I am a recent graduate of Berklee College of Music with a Master’s in Music Production, Technology, and Innovation; with a secured Post-Master’s Fellowship in the Office of the President the following year. I am now part of the future of all record labels and I am joining the staff at a legendary studio created by my two biggest inspirations: Timbaland and Jimmy Douglass. The climax of the hero’s journey approaches!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Looking back at everything, I would say it has been a gradual rise. One that is so subtle it’s hard to notice until you look back and really give yourself grace and appreciation for everything you’ve done from a sense of passion and integrity. It’s like a gentle elevator. You’re not sure it’s moving until you look down and see that the ground is much farther away than the last time you checked. It has been smooth and erratic at the same time. Erratically smooth, maybe. Moments of herculean hustle often come full-circle in an unpredictable manner in the future… I have some insane stories, maybe when I get the first big hit, I’ll come back to tell more.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a music producer or audio engineer with exceptional technical skills. I am an INFJ (1% of the population has this personality type), I have Audio Processing Disorder, ADHD, and have many traits of a high functioning person on the spectrum. This sensory sensitivity coupled with unique cognitive processing (and luckily some talent!) lets me get really unique angles on projects that no one else can.
I review the music and projects of artists for the top online record label in the world. I was brought on by the founder, a multi-platinum singer-songwriter and overall great being. I’m known for taking any project or audio and making it sound a million times better or providing notes they can use to turn their song into its ultimate form- whether it’s adding, taking away, or completely remixing the track- I really don’t know how I do it at this point. I just enjoy imagining an enhanced version if one is there as a ghost and then bringing it to life/reality- often artists are like ‘How did you do that?’ and I love being that source of magic since much of the creation process is no longer a mystery to most people or working musicians.
I have no regrets in this journey and I genuinely feel fulfilled because I never squandered an opportunity or didn’t pursue something to the fullest. Even during the pandemic, I finished more records and projects than any other year and won a Peoples’ Choice Award for ‘Exemplary Artist Support’! I appreciate all the people and teams I’ve gotten to work with and build relationships with through this time. As much as I’ve talked about myself here, I do understand that I am a gear in the whole system- one of the many unique puzzle pieces that help create the whole. The music industry starts in the bedroom and expands beyond the stars. I’m grateful for all the people who have helped make everything I’ve mentioned possible as none of this happens in a vacuum.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Do not burn yourself out for the sake of “productivity.” GET sleep!
