Daily Inspiration: Meet Alyssa Durdle

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyssa Durdle.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
After having my third baby I came across cookie decorating videos on Instagram, I became obsessed! I slowly went down the rabbit hole watching video after video. I felt like this was something I wanted to try! Never once did I think it would turn into a business. I reached out to a local mom group on social media asking where I could take a class and I was pointed in the direction of Mrs.B cookie school. Attending the class was my first time away from my baby which was nerve wracking for me but I really wanted to see what this new obsession was all about. After learning the basics I came home and went alllll in! I just kept watching more and more cookie videos and soaking everything in like a sponge. Friends kept asking me to make cookies for them, slowly one order came in, then another and I’ve built my business from the ground up. I really do feel lucky to have found something that I love to do. I really appreciate everyone who trusts me to help make their events and special occasions even more special.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Everything has been fairly smooth so far, the business part has really come naturally to me. I have had my times where I feel completely overwhelmed but to me that’s a good thing. When I’m overwhelmed I feel like it pushes me to work harder for what I want. I’m constantly learning new techniques and design ideas and love pushing the boundaries outside of my comfort zone. I love when my customers present ideas and I’m able to design a cookie set beyond their expectations. I really pride myself on that. I love making my customers visions come to life.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I feel like I thrive with girly cute designs but I seriously want to try EVERYTHING. The most fun and exciting part for me is my customers reactions. I LOVE being apart of their special life events. I have repeat clients whom I make cookies for all their children’s events, I almost feel like an extension of the family. My customers reactions and happiness seriously makes it worth every long hour I work. No other job has given me this much enjoyment.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
