Conversations with Alvaneese Mosco

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alvaneese Mosco.

Hi Alvaneese, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My passion for dance started when I was at the age of 6. I went to fine arts summer dance programs, did cheer in middle school, then went on to majorette in high school. Even though I had a passion for dance, I never had the opportunity to really take it serious because of my upbringing. So when I had a daughter I placed her in gymnastics at 4 then we switched to dance at 6. From that point I seen my child hood unfold in my baby’s eyes. From there I knew that not only do the girls in our community need and outreach for dance, but also one that helps build youth empowerment, confidence, and build a sisterhood. So in 2018 I opened a nonprofit dance organization called Shimmering Divas Dance Team. We do volunteer work and give back to those less fortunate. We also travel and compete in numerous cities and states, bringing back continuous wins! On our 1st year anniversary we were able to secure a dance studio where the girls now have a dance safe haven that they can always come to and call home. It takes a village to raise a child and I want to help as many children in this community be all that they could ever be and see as many new things as possible! The goal is train and keep their minds busy so the bad ways of this society doesn’t hold them back from blossoming into the best ways possible. I also pray that this sticks with them all and they use this platform to go to places they have always dreamed of with an HBCU scholarship. -Coach Diva

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No it has not always been smooth, from getting everyone prepared for competitions, to handling different attitudes. But when everyone gets on the same page the turnout is beyond beautiful and heart warming

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a loving wife and mother of 3 kids. Outside of my nonprofit I also braid hair and have a hair care line, customize shoes and phone cases full time. Juggling all of this plus running an organization with over 40 girls is sometimes overwhelming. But to see where some of the girls start and how dance helps better them, let’s me know none of what I do goes in vain! For me as a Director it’s not always about the win, but about how much my dancers have accomplished. The trophies are excellent but the camaraderie between them is the best joy of it all!

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
We are a non-profit organization that gives back to the community and we accept all donation types and fundraising opportunities!
