Rising Stars: Meet Jana Richards

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jana Richards.

Hi Jana, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi! I’m Jana Richards, a 26-year old Realtor from Wylie, TX. I’m originally from New Orleans, LA, I traveled frequently due to both my parents being in the military. My passion for helping others find their dream home stems from natural disasters affecting my immediatly family. A majority of my family relocated due to Hurricane Katrina. My diverse background credits to my ability readjust and work well with others.

I was introduced to the world of Property Management in 2017 working as a Community Assistant for a student housing apartment. Once I graduated from LSU, I took on a full-time position and worked as a leasing agent until 2020. During this time, I moved from Baton Rouge to Dallas to be closer to family and pursue a career more closely related to Marketing, my major, while attending LSU. However, that didn’t work out so well, so I quickly jumped back into leasing. This time with a “Class A” property. Although this was a very different ball game from Student Housing, I utilized my skills to become one of the best agents in my company. I have met a lot of people and learned so much during my time at the property I worked for. My experience pushed me to get my Real Estate license. I am currently only a part-time Realtor six months later but would like to really take my real estate career to the next level before year-end.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been easy getting to where I am today! Being a relatively fresh graduate while trying to navigate adulthood has its own challenges, especially when most jobs require experience of some sort. Internships and jobs I thought would be beneficial for my career path were competitive and hard to come by while in school, but these obstacles have led me to become resourceful. I’ve had to depend on my own skills, unique voice, and personal brand to gain access into this field, which led to my first experience in property management. In hindsight, I wouldn’t trade the difficulties in my journey because the lessons I’ve learned along the way have made me even more passionate about real estate!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a Realtor working under Rogers Healy and Associates. I use my services to help anyone who is looking to buy, sell, or lease a new home. I would definitely say that apartment locating is my specialty since that is where I have the most experience. I’ve become very familiar with what it takes to secure that dream apartment, and I’ve found clients really appreciate my simple but thorough approach to make the process as smooth as possible for them. Consider me “Jan with the Plan”!

Risk-taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
My views are that life is short, and I pride myself on being a risk-taker and exploring things. How do you know what inspires your passions and dreams if there are no risks involved? Honestly, becoming a Realtor is a risk in itself. A lot of people don’t realize the amount of time and money you have to put in to receive the best outcome of your sales. As a part-time Realtor, I feel overwhelmed a lot of the time because I want to do so much to boost my business. Every day I utilize my time wisely. That way I don’t burn out too quickly or lead to making a drastic decision such as quitting my full-time job too soon. Taking any venture is a general sacrifice, and I am not the one to settle. I will always take the risk to become the best version of me.
