Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebel Robinson.
Hi Rebel, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I grew up an athlete. My whole life I grew up with one thing on my mind. College softball. I had finally got there and then the rest of life hit me. Freshmen year I quickly realized that I had no idea who I was or what I was going to do after college. I quickly had to figure out what “career path” I wanted. All I knew was that I liked math and so, in the spring of 2018, I graduated with a math major to teach high school math and be a softball coach from Texas A&M. About two weeks after graduating, I received my very first camera. I remember thinking I would become one of those epic travel videographers because we all know that I was going to travel a ton during the summers between the academic school years. I knew I needed to get familiar with the camera, and since I lived in Fort Worth, and the Texas country music scene is so big here, I thought I’d get my bearings behind the camera filming & photographing live music. Oh, did I grow to love this, but quickly realized this wasn’t going to make money, so I captured my first wedding in the fall of 2018 and loved being able to be a part of someone’s special day.
After my very first bride said she cried watching our film, I knew I’d fall in love. So I continued to film weddings and then started photographing them as well. So at this point, I was doing photos + videos for weddings and concerts because the music was still very much a passion of mine. All while teaching full time. As I had to create a logo and website for my wedding/concert side hustle, I absolutely fell in love with designing. So, I started exploring this avenue in early 2019. Quickly I realized that the self-employment life was for me. Since I have been such a great money saver my whole life, I had a lot of money in saving and decided to make the leap to quit my teaching job at the end of the 2019 school year. Best decision ever. Since then, I have been full force in my entrepreneurial life and am in the middle of launching my third business. So not only do I own Rebel Dawn Media a wedding + concert photo/video business, but I also have Lenya Creative a design studio where I help create brands, logos, websites, and social media for other ambitious business owners, but now I am also the co-owner of a lifestyle clothing/accessories brand called the And Brand. This girl went from knowing nothing but sports to being inspired and passionate about making dreams, creations, and stories come to life through photo, video, design, and now clothes!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think the hardest things have constantly been feeling imposter syndrome and I know everyone can relate to this to some degree. Whether they are a business owner or not. We are good enough, and we are capable of whatever we set our minds to. I have constant struggles of staying active on social media, alongside no letting it take over my life and cause me to compare. Comparison can stop us in our tracks, and I will be the first to admit it certainly caused me some trouble in my business.
