Rising Stars: Meet Christopher Preston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christopher Preston.

Hi Christopher, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I gotten into photography around 2015, when I moved to Dallas, TX. I bought my first camera from best buy to just play around with, take pictures of just random things.

Eventually, I started taking portraits of family and friends and started loving being able to capture more than a picture that gave off a vibe and told someone’s story. Things started to pick up as I shared more of my work and working with family and a wedding company, eventually leading my to start my own wedding photography and videography business. I love what I do, I get to be a part of most couple’s best days full of love, food, and fun. My camera has allowed me some great opportunities like traveling, making more friends, meeting celebrities, and serving in church to reach others through my camera.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
A few obstacles/challenges for one is financial institution account being empty. A few people do not understand how much digital camera gear costs and it seems like the spending never ends. Second starting out, your expected to have capturing experience shooting weddings to get employed, and it makes getting your first booking tough. Thirdly the business aspect, I realize how to take photos and video however now I am beginning a business, I have to be in charge of the whole thing like customer support, the books, advertising/marketing, and so on. Last work balance, capturing wedding as a business can easily take over your lifestyles so it’s important to separate personal from the job and get the proper balance.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
