Conversations with Katrina Strohl

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katrina Strohl.

Katrina Strohl is a Navy veteran who served as an Aviation Structural Mechanic (AM). Now, with over ten years of Human Resources (HR) experience, several HR Certifications and multiple Career Coaching Certifications, Katrina continues to serve others. In 2018, Katrina decided to take her own life after internalizing the behavior of a toxic workplace. Since then, she has become a huge advocate of mental health and works to reduce the stigma through their show. Absolutely Not! is the weekly live podcast dedicated to providing examples of setting personal boundaries at work and the vocabulary needed to name harm in those spaces.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Kind of. Once I started setting boundaries with myself and others, I was able to only lean into projects that aligned with my purpose. Before, I would end up in toxic organization after toxic organization, completely drained of life believing something was wrong with me. It’s so much easier now.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am so proud of the person I am today and the work I do in boundaries and career coaching. It is so exciting to see others start believing in themselves and walking in the path that makes them happy. I recently helped someone leave an abusive work environment and move into a new space with opportunities for growth and creativity.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The only permission you need is your own. If you want to sing, sing. If you want to write, write. If you want to pivot, just pivot. Money will come but that passion and fire your get from doing what you are actually meant to do is immeasurable and cannot be substituted.
