Rising Stars: Meet Kirsten Asher

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kirsten Asher.

Hi Kirsten, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started down this journey because I realized how beneficial dance was as a way to work through troubling times and express yourself. I had a rough childhood and used dance as a way to release and process through emotions that I didn’t understand. I came to realize that dance was actually a therapy and that sent me down the path of self-discovery and personal development. At the time, I was working in Hollywood first as a stunt performer and then in production for NBC, ABC and CBS among commercials and music videos.

I eventually discovered that I needed to do something different and start my own company where I could use my talents and learned skills to help others. That’s where Huntress comes in – I’m able to use everything I’ve learned, studied and embraced to facilitate retreats, masterminds and collaborate on different projects. This is where the story begins.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It hasn’t been sunshine and rainbows but everything has been worth it. I come from the mindset of every challenge being a lesson and a blessing to learn more about myself, how to conduct myself through trials and how to do a lot of things.

You’ll hear many people say that the road of entrepreneurship isn’t easy and they’re right. Although if you have a desire to create something, build it and see it through… and have persistence, you’ll be good. The only other thing I would say is to have a community of support, mentors, people who have done it before and advisories that you can lean on and vis versa.

I have had failed plans, disagreements, confusion and tears. On the other side of that is seeing your vision come to fruition and that’s the sweetest sight and feeling. If this is a direction you want to take, do it. Just make sure you have good and supportive people around you.

One of my biggest challenges was to stop everything I was doing and take inventory of myself to check in and see if this was still the path for me. I don’t think many people keep tabs on that and for me it’s extremely important not only for my wellbeing but the way I’m able to show up for those in my business and those I serve through my business. If my cup isn’t full, I can’t fill another. If my cup is full of mud, I’m not going to be able to lead clearly.

Take inventory – even if you’re working with a company, still take time to check-in and make sure it’s still aligned with your values, goals and vision.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
First and foremost, I’m a dancer, a creative and explorer. The wonderment of this world is what keeps me going and feeds me to do better and be better. I facilitate retreats for people to disconnect from the digital, structured, concrete world and revitalize themselves through creativity, movement, breathwork and nature.

In the world we live in today, we’re constantly pulled in multiple directions and generally push our personal needs and desires to the back burner to simmer till the water is evaporated and we’ve forgotten. Forgotten what it’s like to play, immerse yourself in nature, play with your creative self and create with our hands… our senses. This is what my retreats do whether it’s a woman’s retreat, company retreat or mixed gender. You get to play, laugh and fully enjoy YOU.

Creativity has been proven to activate all three networks (default network, executive network and salience network) in your brain to work together which enhances your ability to problem solve, work better and more efficiently. With my background that spans from a dancer, holistic health practitioner, production and event manager, artist, maker, personal trainer, stunt performer, entrepreneur and mastermind facilitator, I take you on a journey back to yourself surrounded by the most healing medicine ever… nature.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Oh yes, I have absolutely taken risks mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually. I think most of us have in our own way – the “major” is relative to each. Risk-taking is necessary for growth, in my opinion. To lean into your edges can help you grow consistently, but taking risks are the biggest teacher you could ask for. You learn more about yourself than any book, class or seminar will teach you.

Relationships are risks. Business deals are risks. Trusting yourself is a risk. Within the risk is the treasure but only as long as you see it through and are able to find the balance of selfish and selfless. We need them both.
