Meet Delaney Roberts

Today we’d like to introduce you to Delaney Roberts.

Hi Delaney, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
After graduating from The University of Texas at Austin with my bachelor’s in Interior Design from the School of Architecture, I worked for seven years in corporate architecture and design… but to tell you the truth Real Estate was always there. My friend Bre Brown, Vice President in Tenant Rep at JLL Austin, and I would have a conversation almost every year where she would make a compelling argument of why I should be in corporate real estate instead of design. Bre went to school with me and used her degree in design to forge a path in Corporate Real Estate and just knew it was a missed path for me.

Once the pandemic hit in March 2020, my collaborative architecture office transitioned to “WFH,” and if that was not stressful enough, my husband and I also started looking to buy a home. While working on a deadline, I was listening to a podcast where the host, Andy Frisella, told his listeners that the pandemic was going to affect all of us. Period. Some in good ways and some in bad ways, and we have no control over that… but what we do have control over is how we respond to it.

For me that phrase became true in October 2020 when I was part of the second round of layoffs my company had. This reality hit a little harder because we were in the middle of finalizing our loan to purchase our home, and since I no longer had a job our income needed to be reevaluated. When I called our loan officer Brian McCauley and told him I was let go his response was, “don’t panic. Give me 48 hours to work and I will get back to you on our options.” The team that we used to purchase our home all took action – they went to work doing what they did best. Two days later, we had a way to move forward on our purchase and I had a new career path.

Like the podcast said… we could only control how we responded to what the pandemic threw our way. I responded by choosing a new career whereby adding another license. I could grow my strengths and offer them to others in order to help them achieve their goals.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I think that it has been as smooth as transitioning careers in a pandemic can be! I set myself up for success by joining a team and a brokerage that I trusted and believed in. Joining Rogers Healy and Associates allowed me to quickly build my knowledge of the DFW market and to feel prepared to represent others in an unprecedented market. I also joined The Verrett Team, which allowed me to still work in a “team” environment where each of our talents differ but offers ways to make the group stronger!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a registered interior designer as well as a licensed Realtor. My background and training in architecture allow me to view properties in ways others do not. I love the design and still find it exciting to discover the potential that every property holds. My background also ingrained a strong work ethic and how to solve complex problems in a tight time frame!

Although my background has given me a lot of great tools, my favorite change is how I can now develop true relationships with those I am working with. I can now not only help them find a home, but I can be a resource for them long after!

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up I was pretty much like I am now. I’ve always been an “old soul,” as they say. Relationships are very sacred to me. I do not take them for granted and am very intentional in ways I build and (keep) relationships.

I am still very close to friends I have had since I was four years old and dated my husband for almost ten years before we were married. I build relationships that last because I care about the other person.
