Daily Inspiration: Meet Jewel Coleman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jewel Coleman.

Jewel, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was raised in Birmingham, AL now residing in Dallas, TX. I am woman of many talents. I am a model, a DJ, an engineer, a creator, an influencer, an empowerer, a vlogger, a blogger, a singer, and a dancer. I write, I speak. I’d like to believe I am a visionary. My passion in life is to creatively empower others to “become” while going through life’s challenges and curveballs. My goal is to share my journey with others who are like me, who have a vision for their life, who have goals, who have passion and need guidance on how to shape and mold the life they dream of. My journey started summer of 2017. I had just graduated from undergrad at Tuskegee University. On the outside, the view looked spectacular. I was right where I should be, headed to grad school with different job offers lined up. However, I felt very different on the inside. I wasn’t in love with the person in the mirror. I wasn’t excited about life. I weighed the heaviest I had ever weighed at 215 pounds. This was a rock bottom for me. I was 22 years old, unsure of where my life would take me because I had made all of the “right” decisions but didn’t make any decisions that went along with my vision for my future. That was moment I decided that I would no longer allow other people’s visions guide my life. I started a vlog on YouTube broadcasting the healthy lifestyle change that I was about to embark on. I told my family and friends to be my accountability partners because I was about to change my life completely. This was the beginning of Jewel C’s Healthy Lifestyle Change. Here I am now a few short years later walking in the vision I created when I decided to change my life.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Any journey has its ups and downs. My journey has not been a smooth road. I failed often. I had to start from the beginning. I lost friends. When you are on your personal development journey, the road at times feel lonely. I began my weight loss journey at 215 pounds. My goal weight was 160 pounds. I didn’t have the knowledge of what health looked like. I just knew that the road I was on was not it. I had to be radical in my decisions about changing my life. I gave up drinking alcohol for a long time. I gave up sugar. I gave up dairy and I eventually gave up meat. I sacrificed the life I knew for the life I wanted. Although these may seem like hard decisions and struggles, I knew what I wanted for myself. I envisioned the woman I wanted to be and spent every day waking up and molding myself a little more like her. It was tough, but something E.T. The HipHop Preacher said stuck with me: “The important thing is this: To be able at any moment to sacrifice what we are for what we will become.”

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Along my journey of health, wellness, and personal development I decided it was time to develop and mold what I am really passionate about. For me, that is creativity. I have a passion for being creative. I show this through food, fashion, fitness, and music. I create and style photoshoots. I create healthy meals for people to try to encourage health and happiness. I make working out fun by showing that you can still be active while traveling, vacationing, and even in your own space. Lastly, I LOVE to create a vibe! I DJ parties and events for any special occasion. My goal with anything I do is to tell a story. From my fashion to my music, I like to creatively put on a production that tells the vision of Jewel C.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success is translating your dreams into your reality, walking in your purpose everyday, and continuously growing to become the best version you were created to be.
