Today we’d like to introduce you to Theo Williams.
Hi Theo, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started producing around 2002 along with a childhood friend named Mike Gooden. Mike with his West Coast Riding music accompanied with heavy Southern bass lines blended well with my laid-back jazz-inspired grooves. The partnership was a lock after that. As the end of 2005 approached, we decided to form our own production company called “Track University.” Our quest to bring the “Funky Town Sound” to the forefront of the Texas music scene. In the beginning, we focused on producing Fort Worth artists such as King J, Dark City, and ShaDaye. After branching out and making connections with national artists, we realized there was a need to create a space for an independent artist to be heard, so we created www.tucampusradio.com in 2010. As we grew as producers and businessmen, we now focus our attention on teaching the new crop of upcoming producers and artists the ins and outs of the music industry.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
What would a road be without bumps? Without a doubt, there have been struggles for us on our musical journey. The music business is cutthroat especially in Texas. Most cities operate as independent entities when it comes to whom they deal with when it comes to the business of music, which can make networking difficult at times. You just have to persevere and continue to work your plan. Surround yourself with solid people who have similar mindsets and goals.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Our team has really grown and in turn, it has expanded our business. The core of our business is still music production, recording and engineering. We now have expanded into offering voice over services and graphic design. I’m most proud of the wonderful team that we have now. It took a long time to find people that had the same drive and focus as us. Lindsay, Berna, Rochelle, D.J. Dumaine and Scott have taken our company to the next level. I think what sets us apart from the rest is the collective talent that each one of us brings to the table.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I was a quiet kid who stuck to myself and had a small group of friends. I had a love for music growing up and a passion for cooking hence the nickname “Tha Beat Chef”.
