Today we’d like to introduce you to Cory McCaskey.
Hi Cory, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I have been an entrepreneur for as long as I can remember. However, I can’t say that I took much serious until age 21 when I was involved in a tragic motorcycle accident shattering five vertebrae in my neck, collapsing both lungs, fracturing my skull and spending over a month in a coma. The doctors said there was a very low chance of survival and brought my family together from around the country to say their goodbyes. Before they left the hospital, they stopped by the chapel to pray and I miraculously pulled out of the coma. After hearing that I would most likely never walk again, I defied all odd’s and left the hospital on my own 2 feet in under a month. I spent the next year learning to walk again and rehabbing myself at home. That experience developed a strong sense of urgency in me to accomplish as much as possible with a new understanding of tomorrow not being promised. I am now a top-ranked real estate agent and coach, a public speaker, the owner of a real estate investment firm, as well as a remodeling company, and I am currently also a Director of Expansion for Monument Realty, the official real estate partner of the Dallas Cowboys.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Haha. No, it has been a long bumpy road and there have definitely been many obstacles to overcome along the way. There is a saying that states, “Nothing worth having comes easy” and that is very true. I would say that I have seen and been through it all but that would be very naïve to believe that the struggles have ended. Growth comes from being stretched and so I believe in pushing yourself daily.
I know that with the goals I set for myself that struggle is imminent. So, I continue to learn and evolve in an industry that is constantly changing with the hopes that I can be just a little better every day.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My business motto is “Doing the Right Things for the Right Reasons”. I always make sure that I am considering the best interest of the individual or group that I’m working with. If I am coaching someone, I try to focus on identifying the underlying issue or limiting beliefs that are holding them back from attaining their goals, Isolating that issue and setting a plan to exceed any and all expectations. Opulent properties, my investment firm, works with people going through hardships, whether that be the loss of a job, divorce, death of a loved one, etc. and have extenuating circumstances involving a home or property they need to sell. We offer creative exit strategies for those in need of a safe and fast solution. I’m extremely proud of the reputation that I’ve built and developed over many years in this business. People know that when they choose to work with me that I am committed to giving every ounce of myself and that I will present them with all of their options and allow them to make the best-educated decision for their family and/or business.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
That is a hard one. Honestly, I had a pretty rough childhood. I was raised by a single alcoholic mother and found myself in a lot of trouble growing up. I can tell you a multitude of horror stories and bad memories but if I had to choose a favorite childhood memory, I would say that it would have to be when my grandfather would take me to the local airshows. He was a Sr. Master Sargent in the Air Force and he would walk me through the planes and explain how everything worked and point out all the differences in the aircraft. I could feel his excitement for what he did and I was always impressed with his passion and vast knowledge. As a child, I felt like he knew everything. He is the one that inspired my commitment to growth and constant learning. He also instilled in me to always do the right thing and help people whenever you can.
