Today we’d like to introduce you to Nadia Hill.
Hi Nadia, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
After graduating high school, I thought I knew everything and I had this idea of what my life would be and I am beyond happy that I was wrong. The path I had chosen led me to not take my education seriously and it never felt right to me that it was the choice I made. A couple of years later, I found my life upside down and I quickly understood that going back to school was the best thing for me.
I started Kilgore College in the fall of 2018 as a journalism student. I fell in love with the program. One of my required classes was photography. I had an opportunity to learn from the award-winning photographer, ORufus Lovett. I have always loved being in front and behind the camera, and this environment allowed me to develop my skillset.
I graduated Kilgore College in May of 2020, in the midst of the pandemic. During that summer, I took a leap of faith and decided to start my own photography business, Nadia Hill Photography. Over the last year, I have seen many improvements in my work and the potential of not only my business but also myself. My goal is to provide my clients with a professional yet family feel. I understand the importance of capturing a moment to last a lifetime and I hope that my work gives my clients just that.
I am currently a senior Mass Communications student with a concentration in Radio/TV and Social Media at Stephen F. Austin State University. I will graduate with my bachelor’s degree in May of 2021. My photography business acts not only as my creative outlet but an additional source of income that I hope to always have.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has been pretty smooth, but there are always some struggles along the way. My biggest struggle has been self-doubt. Comparison is the thief of joy and I soon learned that I had to let go of that mindset in order to be successful. I give my best each session and I aim to always improve my work.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I specialize in lifestyle photography. I capture family sessions, graduates, maternity, and couples/engagements to name a few. I am most proud that I bet on myself and I have been successful thus far. What sets me apart from others is that I genuinely want to provide not only a good service but something that my clients love.
What’s next?
Honestly, there is no “plan”. I’m 23 years old and I know that I have a lot to offer the world and I’m happy that I get to explore the opportunities presented to me. After graduation, I do hope to start work on my master’s degree and establish a career. I hope that Nadia Hill Photography continues to grow and I establish a name for myself in the photography business in my area.
My goal is to ALWAYS be a positive voice for the black community and other minorities and that will forever reflect my life, career, and whatever I plan to do. My dad is my everything and making him proud is my life’s goal.
